Wow, y'all don't like that 93 dusty Hip-Hop, when the bass overpowered the vocals and drums :yeshrug:

I've been on a late 80s Synthpop (PetShop Boys, Tears for Fears, Soft Cell, and Culture Club) kick as of late. I love how

every song is basically a synthesizer and drum machine being played at the same tempo, and those European cacs with the

muffled voices, saying the most outlandish fabulous thing. I'm surprise Ye or the camel never jumped on that bandwagon...Oh wait Watch The Throne. :troll:

Anyway, thanks for the input :salute:

born 88'. truthfully, there was just something about 90s hip-hop that sounds dope. 80s shyt sounds very basic, i mean its cool but i aint really tryna hear that shyt unless its rakim, ll cool j, run dmc or nwa. the rest of that shyt i just sounds wack, but the whole breakdancing and break beats phase seemed cool.

the 90s however holds up well. i love nas, 2pac, wu, mobb, dmx, redman, dj quick, old snoop, old cash money, big pun, biggie, outkast, ice cube, getto boys. even some old ja rule or mase sounds good. the early 90s had a real dope sound like it had alot of dope basslines and the mc's didnt sound forced at all, everyone was just free to do what they wanted and there seemed to be alot more variety. the mid to late 90s had alot of really cinematic production, like it sounded like movie score type shyt, which was dope. then in the 00s it all just sort of became club music and there was nothing to offset it. club music is good for the club but after a while it gets tired.

aside from kanye, lupe and game the 00s have been really wack. now the 2010s are starting to feel like another 90s, like its coming back to more variety, theres a desie for artists with a little bit more substance to em.

truthfully i just feel kinda ripped off because i was a teen in the 00s because it seems like every other era just had better music, first the 90s and 80s and now these kids seem like they are getting better music too.

born 88'. truthfully, there was just something about 90s hip-hop that sounds dope.

It's the vibe, the passion, the hunger... people caring about their craft... things that are virtually non-existant in today's corporation owned, microwaved culture.

Man, I treat 90"s music like any other era some of it is trunk music, others is chill/study/ thinking music, the rest gets thrown in bushes.

I think you are getting stuck on the word "evolve". Call it reformed, transformed or what ever.

Everything is always evolving. And with music, whether you like it or not, it's the experience of the listener which is deciding what is good and not.

Same shyt with fashion. In my opinion some of the stuff that comes out today is :what: But at the same time there is some cool stuff being made.

The things I tried to say in my first post about hip hop also applies to fashion, when we look back on the fashion during the 80's and 90's we feel like its old. But I have NEVER said old = bad!

I don't even mention the word outdated. Stupid word anyway, and totally over used on this forum. I don't see rock fans argue if the classic 70-80's bands are outdated or not. If it's made 20-30 years ago ofc it is gonna sound old (yeah yeah, there are some music that is considered timeless and before its time, but that is a very little portion of ALL music that is made). What do you think people will think about Dubstep in 20 years? Some will hate on it just like today, but there is some that will find it interesting and see the fun in it.

I'm not a big fan of late 00 hip hop either ( I do feel like there are a part of the new generation that is doing some interesting shyt tho), but to say hip hop has not evolved is just ignorant.

Try reading my first post again with an open mind and don't get stuck on words. I think you get my message.

*hint* the counter-question about 70's and 80's RnB (considered by many way better then todays RnB) *hint*

well if you change the wording from "evolution" to "transformed", then theres really nothing to argue about. i guess we're somewhat on the same page.

im just saying that the music cant possibly be evolving when its clearly been de-volving for the past decade.

I'm an old nikka(33), but I image alot of classic shyt like Ice Cube's early albums sound dated as hell, but since I heard them from day 1, they still sound dope to me. I'd say early eastcoast production doesn't hold up as well as well as westcoast prodution from the early '90s.

An album like nikkas4Life still sound fresh with dope ass production. Quik's albums still sound pretty fresh also.

Another 88 Baby, and thankfully I had a brother that was 10 yrs older than me that had me listening to quality rap from the time I was 4-5 years old so I def have an appreciation for 90s Hip Hop. Easily much more lyricism but I think that's returning now. But as someone said before alot of the production on pre 96 or so stuff sounds really dated. Of course there are exceptions like Chronic, Doggystyle, OB4CL and a couple others that have legendary producers behind them. Still dope music though.

I've truly never understood this dated thing, yeah of course most music made in a certain period is gonna have a certain style to it, and I admit, sonically music from now shyts on music from yester years, but that's to be expected.

I could care less about "sonics" and what not, what I care about is the quality. And Quality to me is something, that to me will never be dated.

Music back then, while not as technical, was a lot more musical. Just listen to basslines now as compared to back then. Those bassline from back in the days, had movement, rhythm, now it's just one loud thud.
