No, but then again I'm from New York and we grew up on old-school shyt. Our radio stations (used) to be of decent quality, and we were exposed to things with high lyrical content. That boom bap sound, those scratches - shyt like that makes a song better to me.

you need to lower the age in the thread title a few years, playgirl.

at least for the dudes that hopped off the porch before puberty.

lol @ music evolving.

music aint evolved not one bit in about a decade(and im being generous with that).

if anything from the '90s.....nah, F that.....if anything from the mid-80s on up sounds dated to you, its because you just dont want to hear anything thats before your time.

the beats, flows and lyrics, the majority of that chit has gone backwards. not forwards. especially the lyrics. alot of this chit isnt even on '70s hip-hop levels.

I think you are getting stuck on the word "evolve". Call it reformed, transformed or what ever.

Everything is always evolving. And with music, whether you like it or not, it's the experience of the listener which is deciding what is good and not.

Same shyt with fashion. In my opinion some of the stuff that comes out today is :what: But at the same time there is some cool stuff being made.

The things I tried to say in my first post about hip hop also applies to fashion, when we look back on the fashion during the 80's and 90's we feel like its old. But I have NEVER said old = bad!

I don't even mention the word outdated. Stupid word anyway, and totally over used on this forum. I don't see rock fans argue if the classic 70-80's bands are outdated or not. If it's made 20-30 years ago ofc it is gonna sound old (yeah yeah, there are some music that is considered timeless and before its time, but that is a very little portion of ALL music that is made). What do you think people will think about Dubstep in 20 years? Some will hate on it just like today, but there is some that will find it interesting and see the fun in it.

I'm not a big fan of late 00 hip hop either ( I do feel like there are a part of the new generation that is doing some interesting shyt tho), but to say hip hop has not evolved is just ignorant.

Try reading my first post again with an open mind and don't get stuck on words. I think you get my message.

*hint* the counter-question about 70's and 80's RnB (considered by many way better then todays RnB) *hint*

They don't say that, but I bet most rock fans/metalheads who grew up on those bands don't listen to 50s rock n roll. There is music in all genres that sound dated fans of differnet genres will tell you that.

yeah but its not shytted on so hard.. Im serious, most young people cannot go back before 2000 it seems.

It depends on how it sounds. :ehh:

For example listening to Outkast still is :whoo: in this day of age. shyt holds the test of time. DMX still sounds fresh in this day of age as wll.

That's the fault of the parents who didn't pass down the music to them/ the lack promotion from mainstream media(tv shows/commercials/movie soundtracks).

I'm 26. I LOVE alot of 90s hip hop. Its still my favorite era overall, especially 96-99. I tend to shy away from things before 1994, but i still like to keep a constant stream of 90s albums that i never heard before, or just didnt understand at the time.

I missed alot and i'm willing to admit it, but i also witnessed alot since i really started to follow this rap sh1t in '98.

This is going to be my first actual post on the site but I've definitely been thinking about this for a while so props to the OP. I just turned 27 a month ago and 90s Hip Hop is the majority of what I listen to. I still listen to a lot from the 00s and very few cats from today but the 90s stuff is what got me into Hip Hop to begin with and I feel like there is a timelessness to it. Even joints like Living Proof by Group Home, definitely not the best MC's or even close to it but that whole album just gives an aura and a feeling that the stuff today doesn't give me.

I always feel if you don't know the history of Hip Hop you're doing yourself a disservice and to me, the genre was at its peak in the 90s. Doesn't sound "dusty" at all. Give me any Wu from that period or Nas or Redman or even Busta over a lot of the stuff today and it's not even a nostalgia thing, just feel like rappers got better over time from the 70s to the 80s to the 90s and then that evolution, at least overall, stopped. Not to say everyone doing it now is wack, far from it but overall, its definitely not what it was then. Plus the first time hearing Nocturnal? I went through the album three or four times straight in one sitting.
