Nope, this convo started because someone implied that Mary was bigger than Toni in the 90's, which is wrong.

The only person that can claim that running shyt by himself since the 90's is Kellz.

she ran her lane, i've never spoken about people running shyt in the 90's as a solo thing since that wasn't really a thing until the late 00's/10's. r kelly didn't run things alone either, he was one of the dudes running it, MJ, babyface, maxwell, usher, ginuwine, etc all was shining at various point in the 90's. now if you want to say he was the only one to move from the early 90's-00's while remaining a top act, that's one thing, but he didn't run shyt alone

She has too many jams and can go in her slow anthem, hiphop remix, or party anthem bag

Although I don't think she would ultimately beat Mary, Faith is much more skilled vocally plus Faith first album is equal to anything Mary J. put out plus Faith put out a lot of great music after her first just not at the same regularity that Mary did.

I was reading through this thread and saw some comments about Monica’s demeanor and I just want to say that I saw her live before and she acts the same way. I don’t know if she’s just stuck up or what but she is very dry in concert. She has a great voice but her stage presence is very blah. Not surprised many others felt that way about the versus. That’s part of the reason I wasn’t all that interested. I knew it wouldn’t be like Erykah and Jill.

mary is bodying any chick in the galaxy. bey, rih, all of em. her first three albums is arguably the best three album run of any artist of our lifetime. not just great albums, but you remember relationships and shyt listening to those songs. and thats before she made the mainstream hits. features, remixes...a song like sincerity is one of my fav mary joints ever and it prolly doesnt even make her 20. just not a fair battle for her out there.

Verzuz is about who had the better hits, not who has the better voice. Brandy won.

Verzuz should consider making this more interesting. Like why not show the music videos while the songs are playing? Or add some little known facts about each song for the fans. They should add a voting poll too. Watching two people just sit there while their song plays is boring. Monica's energy made this hard to watch. She has a beautiful voice but she seemed like she didn't want to be there.

It doesn't matter if most listening do or don't dissect it like that. When taking about who's the better singer, the technical aspects have to be brought up.

Just like if you're debating who's the better rapper (lyrically), the technical aspects have to be brought up.

If you think Monica sounds better, then that's fine. Just say you like her voice more and leave it at that. It doesn't make her a better singer.

I didn't say one sounds better than the other, cause I like both of their music and I don't have a dog in this fight... it's the Randy Jackson nikkas in here are goin' thru all this extra analyzation about pitchiness and vocal tuning and who was being stank to who, just to pick a side...
