I’m in Cuba right now.... chopped it up with a few Afro Cubans and when they found out I was Yoruba they dropped a few Yoruba words and phrases

There are quite a few Yoruba people in Nigeria that have Brazilian and Cuban surnames, that’s because when a lot of slaves were freed they left Brazil and Cuba to come back to Nigeria

That’s why Lagos holds a Caribbean carnival every year

It makes sense actually. That is where most Nigerian slaves were taken, especially the Yoruba people after Fulani Muslim cleric Usman Dan Fodio collapsed the Yoruba kingdoms of modern day Nigeria.
Very surprising that so much culture, let alone linguistics have survived so many years, afterward.

Not really, because the Caribbean and Central America and South America got 90%+ of all slaves and those slaves were usually kept on larger plantations where much of their culture could be retained. Not only that, but because of the high death rates in those areas there were new slaves constantly brought in, which reinforced language and customs. Finally, slaves were taken were taken to the Caribbean, Central America and South America from the 1500s through the late 1800s.

Slavery in the USA was totally different.

True.
Volume, and frequency of newly arriving slaves made the AA experience much different
