I’m in Cuba right now.... chopped it up with a few Afro Cubans and when they found out I was Yoruba they dropped a few Yoruba words and phrases

Not really, because the Caribbean and Central America and South America got 90%+ of all slaves and those slaves were usually kept on larger plantations where much of their culture could be retained. Not only that, but because of the high death rates in those areas there were new slaves constantly brought in, which reinforced language and customs. Finally, slaves were taken were taken to the Caribbean, Central America and South America from the 1500s through the late 1800s.
Slavery in the USA was totally different.
