If another shutdown occurs in January the biggest difference here is that he can't use SNAP funding as leverage since it'll be legally funded until September 30th of 2026, right before midterms. This is basically conceding that Republicans now have a nuclear option whenever they have control during government shutdowns
They can just weaponize SNAP funding and basically get anything they want passed
The Dems caving is to protect SNAP recipients from any more suffering but also to stop Trump and his administration from weaponizing the program as leverage. So now, in January, if a shutdown happens again, the focus will solely be on healthcare and the ACA credits.
Without much leverage, I imagine that if that shutdown were to happen, it would be much shorter than this one simply because Trump and Republicans won't have much leverage to deviate from the discussion of the ACA. After all, that's what happened in this shutdown. It became less about the ACA subsidies and more about SNAP being funded for November, when that wasn't the reason for the shutdown in the first place.
