Swimming isn't hard to learn, the biggest problem is people's fear of the water. Once you get comfortable and understand, you can pick it up pretty quickly.

My 4 year old was scared, etc. :wow::wow: at 5 she is out here swimming pool lengths, doing flip turns.

Swimming is so important to know, cause you NEVER know when you in a spot and will have to save yourself.
Save yourself or a loved one.
Swimming for me is on par with reading and self defense as a life skill every human should be able to accomplish.
Tragic.

in case no one posted it, the reason he started drownin apparently was because the water was 'low' enough to where you could walk through it. this is why his arms were splashing how they were at first, and someone said he was walking or whatever. but, near the middle, there is a large drop, and when he got to that point, he obviously would've needed actual swimming skills, so he was in trouble at that point. this is why it's important to think before acting, especially if your life could be at stake.

This exactly, it’s clear from his angle that he had support under him from the lake bottom and then it cliffed/dropped. So no, he absolutely could not swim and didn’t swim to get out that far-he flailed and glide/walked to get there. Then drowned.

That will be my biggest challenge in terms of getting over fear of water. I lost a few friends to drowning when I was a youngin and said I'd never get into water. I think it's time I learn though.

You gotta learn or else any kids you have are at risk of inheriting that fear. That's how you end up with generations of black folk not knowing how to swim.

Stick with it breh. Even when you accidentally inhale some water n get spooked.
Fight past it n I promise you, you'll be able to enjoy a sense of freedom unique to athletics.

Wait so the breh couldn’t swim and he jumped in the water and did that?!

I don’t think people “deserve” to die but isn’t that dumb? :patrice:

What kind of friends would challenge someone like that and what rational person would accept it?
Bruh this happened in Mississippi. That should answer your question.

Whole situation is embarrassing to all parties involved, but one thing I can’t fathom is the inability to learn to swim. You literally move your legs and arms and you stay afloat and simple dog paddles are instinctive and work. But if you don’t know, why are you out in waters that aren’t pools you can stand in? Dumb asses all around

Dude when I turned 28 I was basically like “I’m freaking learning how to swim”. I went to my homie house and hopped in his pool and was swimming the same day. I for the life of me can’t tread water though...I’ma get professional lessons.

Never be the low man in a crew. If you at the bottom of the totem pole in your peer group then go find a different peer group.
His friends had no respect for that man.

I’ve Been screaming this since I opened this thread. Everybody had that lame in the crew that wanted to be a people pleaser and could be hyped up to do just about anything

RIP to the youngin
