When it comes to your promotions, would you say they were due more to who you knew and soft skills or were your promotions due more to your performance?

If you had terrible soft/social skills in your field, but your same talent would you be making the same amount right now?

Well at my last job i put in 2 years.....we got OT and i was ranked 2nd for the year. I used to put in mad extra hours so i exceeded others (numberswise) and i got paid for it.

First i proved i was good and my managers would vouch for me.....

Id say i earned it for sure but i was also cool with the oerson who had power but they know i was a top 3 performer.

At my new job...i got offered a promo by someone who knows im good but im def NOT on the "in" crowd .... that was for sure performance based.

I didnt accept it cause id have to move like 2000 miles away from here lol (and some other bullshyt)

So..as of now...ive been lucky cause i work hard. But there is def favoritism outchea in this cut throat industry.

I also speak up and ask those above me

1. what i gotta do to get promoted?

2. Am i on your radar?

3. What else can i do to stand out?

I also know how to play the game here too.

Do you think your race(I'm assuming you're black) made networking and promotions harder? Would being a woman make it harder as well?

And do you attend a lot of networking events? Go out with coworkers a lot?

My race (mixed b/w but people think im liteskin black or some think im black and rican mixed :mjlol:)

1. At this current job, it dont matter. Theyre all about numbers and they like ppl to work, not complain and get in and get out.)

2. My last job had a black Senior VP and he was def down :myman: the cacs would claim reverse cism and the blacks felt it from the white SVP so its whatever :manny:

3. I think it would as a woman but my wife is a black woman and she is overpaid cause they liked her as a contractor.... you just gotta work HARDER and maybe HARDER and keep it professional at all times and never move off emotions...we have 3 managers at my new job and 2 are female. And then above them are ti senior managers and one is a woman. I think it depends on where youre at but we have a big mix and i think they only care about putting up numbers at my current job....i am just in a good field IMO. I got lucky. My prior career path had a low ceiling of like 45k and no raises, promos, bonuses and shyt.... :manny:

:stopitslime:I was making 70k like straight outta college.

And that IS money in maryland, i don't know where you nikkas live but i was bringing home like 4800-5,000 after taxes.

That's food for yourself even if you got a family in my area and your wife is making that much you're still good.

Now if you got mooching ass family members anything less than 100k will hurt you.

Why not stay humble? It could all be gone with a job loss. As for me, I stay grinding and learning new skills. Hopefully my hard work pay off very soon. I then want to focus on having possibly having my own business. I am hungry for more.
