I think the Moonlight role catapulted him to the level where from now on, well the progressive blacks love him.

I think the role could’ve went to somebody that’s a bit more charismatic or believable hell. I think he’s a decent actor and i love seeing black men prosper, but roles like this shouldn’t keep going to him.

Imagine if he was in Boyz in the Hood. nikka would’ve threw off the whole movie

Eh, if Cuba’s goofy ass didn’t ruin it, Ashton wouldn’t have ruined it. I think he’s a good actor but a bit one note as the angry brooding type. I actually thought his best performance was in Equalizer 2, showed some more humor and personality. Wondering if Denzel gave him guidance because it was different than other roles I’ve seen him in

I thought he was pedestrian in that too and Denzel should've slapped the shyt out of em' & hope that some of his acting prowess found it's way into the lil gump ass nicca

He's definitely not a great actor, but to the OP's point most of the roles Jesse's had are naive, in over their head types which I think fits him. Whereas Ashton is always playing a troubled young hood dude which can come across as inauthentic at times. As far as actors from Moonlight, Jharrel Jerome is better imo. Dude killed it in When They See Us
