I agree with what you’re saying except about the getting to the line Embiid has been top 5 at getting to the line in NBA since he started playing. Plus most the shortcomings mentioned for having a team built around him fall on Ben as well because of his refusal to shoot.I gotta keep it 100. I love Joel, but a post-up big just can't be your #1 anymore I guess. Embiid dominated inside, but we just couldn't get him the ball, and when we did they can just double and triple team him...
I mean, let's look at the best teams in the league:
Milwaukee has Giannis who really is a big wing and handles from the perimeter, their Center just camps outside to shoot 3s
Toronto has perimeter handlers in a big wing Siakam and guards Vanvleet, Lowry, etc. and Gasol does nothing on offense
Boston is carried by their perimeter players in Tatum/Brown/Kemba and have god awful centers
Lakers are carried by LeBron, JaVale and Dwight were cheap options at the 5 for a reason
Clippers leaders are perimeter wings like Kawhi, PG13, Lou Will, Zubac is a bad player and he's their starting 5.
Nuggets have Jokic sure, but he basically plays like a PG, and he's surrounded by perimeter scorers and handlers
Houston is lead by its perimeter scorers in Harden and Westbrook, they have 0 Centers literally
Dallas has Doncic as their leader, another perimeter threat, and Porzingis is a total outside player he's basically a 7'3" SG at this point
All of those teams are carried by either elite guards or particularly elite wings who can dominate the game from the perimeter. We play a brand of basketball that is just so outdated man...
I'm not saying you can never go to the post or nothin, the lack of bigs on other teams gives Joel a mismatch in a lot of important series, but you can see it everywhere you need that dominant perimeter player. You can't stop them from getting the ball, they can shoot a ton of 3s whenever, the way the game is called they can get to the FT line whenever, they can almost always get their shot unlike Joel.
I'm not saying you have to move Joel, but if you're keeping him you need to radically reshape the roster
As much as I like Tobias he was brought here at the expense of our cap space for the next 5 yrs and Landry Shamet
We literally have no 3pt specialist on the team that we can play in the playoffs. Korkmaz is a liability defensively and offensively sure he can knock down the 3 but he’s very streaky and when he tries to put the ball on the floor it’s a t/o. If we have Tatum we don’t have to give up Shamet or have to overpay Tobias to be a role player but
but then again if we had Tatum, Fox, Isaacs, or anyone else but Fultz EB probably would have traded them anyway on their pursuit of 3rd or 4th star to play with Embiid and Simmons
We need a guard who can break down the defense, play even a little defense, hit the 3,that has court vision and can actually pass the ball. The closest we have to that is Alec Burks. Shake isn’t ready yet. When we had Jimmy he masked those weakness we have trying to build around Ben and Joel’s shortcomings. In the worst way we need a guard who can actually play.
We need this team surrounded with shooters and a couple players who can get their own shots. We knew this when we faced Boston 2 yrs ago. We were on the right tract last yr then Brand decided to waste money on Big Al and no wing players and you see the glaring issue of having to build around our stars even more.

I didn't mean Joel can't get to the line, I meant these other guys can do that too with how easily fouls are being called. It was a comment on how dominant they are in today's game. Yes I think Ben's inability to shoot raises similar questions in terms of longterm team building as well, I just feel like we've all mentioned that. If Ben could shoot, he'd be the perfect player to build around. I agree it's the flaw of the post-Hinkie regime. Sam did a great job of getting us young talent and assets, it's a shame he didn't get to see things through.I agree with what you’re saying except about the getting to the line Embiid has been top 5 at getting to the line in NBA since he started playing. A lot of this wouldn’t be an issue if Colangelo and Brett didn’t blow the 2016-18 drafts and if we cut ties with Brett much earlier. We literally have nothing to show for that 2017 draft if we didn’t reach on Fultz or waste 2 more 1st rounders to draft Pasnecek we may have ended up with the dude who’s currently killing us in the playoffsAs much as I like Tobias he was brought here at the expense of our cap space for the next 5 yrs and Landry Shamet

I feel like last year was our opportunity if Embiid didn’t get “sick” before game 4 and Ben and Tobias didn’t also have a disappearing act the same game we would more than likely be the champs. We’d actually have run it back but I don’t think we have much wiggle room at this point.I didn't mean Joel can't get to the line, I meant these other guys can do that too with how easily fouls are being called. Even before the playoffs I've become quite the pessimist lately in regards to this team's longterm potential. I'm very much of the line of thinking that if you're not a championship contender or on the path to becoming one you're just wasting your time. I have no interest in being a perennial 1st or 2nd round out.
They need to fire Brett this Summer and see what they can get for Horford. A new coach and something along the lines of a Buddy-Horford swap and I'd give them another chance next year.
Honestly speaking, do you feel like this is truly a title team later down the road? Without drastic changes I see no reason why we'd be better than Milwaukee, Toronto, Boston, Miami, or Brooklyn next year in the East alone. That makes us the 6th seed in the weaker conference at best...
Moving forward I’m not really concerned with any of teams you mentioned. The Nets are who I’m concerned with say we actually get both Joel and Ben to make the next step, Brett is fired, we get Buddy and some more shooters getting past that scrappy Nets team with a presumably healthy Kyrie and Durant is unlikely. If they can stay healthy they’ll likely run the East for yr. I never believed in the Bucks and still don’t today’s game is just an example. They shrink every year in the playoffs and when that contract is up if they don’t win before his contract is up Giannis is out. That’s because our last 2 coaches were idiots lol. I’m not close to giving up on the Ben/Jo tandem yet but I believe with a better coach and actually getting some real shooters around them they have a better shot.... only if the Nets don’t get healthy. It’s likely game over if they do. I don’t think there’s a move to be made to prevent them from running the East.I look around the league and see Vucevic and TLC ballin'
I say give the Ben/Joel show one more go, if they don't advance deep in the playoffs, just hit the reset...
I’m seeing Caris Levert, MPJ, shyt even Devonte Graham, all these young scorers with hella potential, and thinking what the hell is our Front Office doing...That’s because our last 2 coaches were idiots lol. With the exception Levert, Brett’s dumbass passed on all of them in the same draft for ZhaireI’m seeing Caris Levert, MPJ, shyt even Devonte Graham, all these young scorers with hella potential, and thinking what the hell is our Front Office doing...

Kenny Atkinson or Dave Joeger are my immediate guesses. They need a coach who’s good at progressing young guys, and someone who is able to get along with them. I think Kenny fits that description more than DaveSo who are the candidates you are looking at for HC because I’m almost positive a coaching change and some player changes outside of Ben and Joel are on the way.
