The word you're looking for is pretentious. Most rappers aren't pretentious at all, they're very direct in their music. The only ones that I would classify as pretentious are the underground rappers that think they're too smart for their own good.

Fake deep is more about the fans than the artists themselves.
What the fans interpret from someone's music has no bearing on the music itself.
What you're saying is that the fans are pretentious.

I just don't see it with his music.
Why do you think Kendrick uses abstract rap and 3rd person characters so much in his raps?
Very rarely is he able to speak on any of this stuff in depth and almost never brings out any emotional appeals.
This is actually a dumb point and you don't realize it. Certain people are better writers than others. In various mediums, do you think the author actually experiences everything he talks about?

The godfather is a well written masterpiece of a movie but it is an unrealistic portrayal and glorification of the lifestyle of gangsters written by someone who was never a gangster. It is still a better movie than most other movies made by someone involved in that lifestyle.

Why do you think gangbangers cant offer critiques of their own lifestyles?
Why do you think dopedealers cant offer critiques of their own lifestyles?
If anyone is fit to critique said lifestyle, its the person living it and know they're living foul.

exactly!

that's why i prefer to listen to someone like Vince or G Herbo comment on it because truthfully they're a lot similar to kendrick but because they've lived it, their critiques of it and WHY it happens or people fall into that path is just more honest than someone like kendrick just watching out the window

both rappers i mentioned are critical about the lifestyle they are living & lived. they both provide just as much insight than kendrick.

why y'all keep coming up with other words? :pachaha: :mindblown:

WE KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING  :usure:

We say fake-deep. We mean fake-deep.

Yall want to shift the focus so you can claim we're talking about something else...when its all the same thing.

If we're at the point debating semantics, you lost the debate.

I really cant explain that term either...
I know that often the songs where the Message/concept/etc is executed without constantly using extra "complicated"/"big" words and just being straight forward/more "simple" are much more listenable/got more feeling

Like for example "Imagine" by Snoop & Dre. The Concept is dope and so are the lyrics but it doesnt Sound like some "try hard" complicated/extra lyrical shyt

i'm taking that a whole different way and also feel like you're reading your own story into it...bookmarking this to come back to

I understand why you think that but read his statement again...

"I have to put that same type of influence on my lil brothers, on the lil homies in the neighborhood," he said. "We tend to act in violence all the time, and that's just something we were brought up to do. Now that I'm more mature, I [can show] them other avenues to go about handling themselves: Being knowledgeable and jumping into a book rather than reaching for a pistol and reacting that way."

Who is "we"? Is it "we" as in immediate family? Neighbors? Classmates? Everyone in your entire neighborhood acts out violently? :jbhmm: He doesn't bother to differentiate between aggression vs self defense either... In fact, he's suggesting that his neighbors are innately aggressive. I hate to say it but there's a certain :mjpls: undertone to his statement as subtle as it may be.

He then goes on to say "now that I'm more mature, I can show them other avenues..." as if he himself was perpetuating violence once upon a time. He doesn't bother to specify whether he was acting in self defense or if he was reacting violently to one-up somebody who disrespected him. How is "jumping into a book" even relevant in a conversation about violence? If the kid is reaching for a pistol it's probably in reaction to one of his people dying... How is "jumping into a book" a commensurate response to losing somebody? It's a lazy statement that doesn't even address the issue he brought up of interrupting the cycle of violence. "Being knowledgeable" would be a great message in a conversation about preparing yourself to go to college but when you're talking about kids dealing with the raw pain and heartache that surrounds gun violence it's an empty statement that does not address the issue.

Pretentious is a real word, fake deep is not.

I'd listen to herbo's more introspective songs if he actually managed to stay in beat.

Fake-deep is a phrase.

You know what it means.

We see you trying to change the terms instead of debate the core topic. :KhaledUSmart:

Fake deep is like that "Sky Full of Lighters" song that Bruno, Eminem, and Royce had. Song aint even about shyt forreal. It just follows a perceived formula for "deep".
Eminem has a LOT of fake deep songs.

Especially when he tries to be this angry mal-adjusted weirdo with teenage angst on tracks.

Its like...dude you're selling this to trailer park meth-riddled trump voter communities with this whole fake-angry bullshyt.

Vince Staples is from a glorified tagger crew. The better choice would be Skeme or AD.

Fake deep doesn't exist imo.

But just because it's deep doesn't mean the artist is sincere or connected to the subject.

wait-
