gibbs and exquire are just as good as any mc from the past that ive listened to. the overall quality has dropped but that dont mean they arent dope. they mos def are

i like gibbs. hes one of my favs for THIS era. but i cant see myself caring about dude if he was out 8-10 years ago when competition was still hectic.he wouldnt have survived back then. and lets not even talk about the '80s & '90s.

the board is hyping his new tape. i havnt heard it yet but the last few songs i heard from gibbs have been mad generic.

i havnt really checked for exquire yet. head a few okay songs.

:what:

so let me get this str8:

these dudes is in here saying that the rap scene today is better than it was in the mid-00s because they think that the mid-00s was the snap era?

really b? the snap era? theres no such thing.

if thats the 1st thing that pops in your head when you think of the mid-00s, then you obviously were not into hip-hop back then. this place is the pits sometimes.

it's the same reason this thread was made.

People think this period is better than the "Snap Era" because they judged hip hop back then by what's given to them on the radio, then da club, then what they hear nikkas play in their cars when they riding around....

and then contrasting what's given to them TODAY on the radio, then da club, then what they hear nikkas play in their cars when they riding around.

it's just sad looking at the rest of these albums...diplomatic immunity stands out so much it's not even funny. only albums i remember even coming close were the true meaning and the coc collectors edition.

Huh?

Diplo Immunity wasn't even in the top 5 albums I named

And I fukked with Dipset heavy, Cam one of the few rappers I copped every single album he ever dropped, SDE I copped twice

Even spent money on a Hell Rell mixtape

But Diplo Immunity was not fukkin with Hunger For More, Carter 2, TM101, Massacre, Late Registration, GRODT, Trap Muzik, Beg For Mercy, or most the other albums listed

03-05 was the last great years of hip hop

And True Meaning came out in 02

I didn't have to Google any of this btw I know when all these albums dropped damn near down to the exact month off the top of my head

its not just hip hop...its music in general.

mostly due to the internet. There is something about having to go to a record store and buying the album. You respect your purchase a lot more. When you bought a CD you listened to that shyt all the way through several times before deciding on which songs you liked the best...you went through the booklet, you carried a book of CDs with you in the car...none of that is going on now.
This shyt is disposable more so than ever.

Or it can just be the life cycle of music. Its happened to all the major genres in the past 100 yrs. It gets to a plateau, and then slowly declines until something else comes around.
Blues, Jazz, Rock, Country...and Hip Hop. All these genres had whats considered "the golden years"...Hip Hop's was in the 90's.

true... it's like anybody can make music these days BUT not everybody has the gift of making good music.

03-08 was the worst years?

03-05 was one of the best 3 year runs of the past 15 years

06-08 was real up and down, but 03-05 was impeccable

GRODT
Trap Muzik
Chicken And Beer
Beg For Mercy
Cheers
Livin Legend
Balls And My Word
Black Album
Hunger For More
Kiss Of Death
Urban Legend
Thug Motivation 101
Carter 2
The Documentary
Massacre
Late Registration
Harlem Diary Of A Summer
Diplo Immunity 1 and 2

^ All released between 2003-2005, not to mention Trap Or Die, and singles such as Lean Back, New York, etc

And that aint even everything

:laff: are you serious???? this guy said chicken and beer and cheers. :dead: none of those albums are classics. :camby:i can tell you only listen to radio so your opinion doesn't count.

Damn y'all are coming up with all these reasons to say it's not worse now than before.
But don't over think this shyt.
It's not a good time for the music when you consider where we came from. That's not to say we can't see a resurgence though. Hip-Hop awaits it's Nirvana moment where someone takes it back to where it belongs and makes everyone feel silly and step up their game.

when Gibbs gets on the old classic beats that's when i think he's at his best. his "freestyle" over '93 Til Infinity is dope & he's not just making '09 Til Infinity or whatever year it was, he made it his own song. :whoa: before you go nuts i'm not saying he made a BETTER song than Souls.
