its not just hip hop...its music in general.

mostly due to the internet. There is something about having to go to a record store and buying the album. You respect your purchase a lot more. When you bought a CD you listened to that shyt all the way through several times before deciding on which songs you liked the best...you went through the booklet, you carried a book of CDs with you in the car...none of that is going on now.
This shyt is disposable more so than ever.

Or it can just be the life cycle of music. Its happened to all the major genres in the past 100 yrs. It gets to a plateau, and then slowly declines until something else comes around.
Blues, Jazz, Rock, Country...and Hip Hop. All these genres had whats considered "the golden years"...Hip Hop's was in the 90's.

I am not sure how people listen to shuffle all day.
hopefully people start to require a bit more.
as they have to start making best of dj based playlist to listen to all the music they have.
hopefully that will start to make the quality more consistent artist to artist.
so, we begin to get higher skilled and quality artist.

@the bolded, yes he is wrong to feel that way. very wrong. at least with your ice cube/dmx story, you can say that dmx isnt too far off from cube's caliber. but saying that 2chainz is better than dmx?

So true.

I've been through 5 eras and this is the first time we regressed:

The Golden Age era (Rakim, Krs 1, Slick Rick '85 - '88),
West Coast era (NWA, Ice Cube, Snoop '88 - '94),
Fight for King of NY era (Nas, B.I.G., Jay, Wu '94 - '01),
Movements (Dip Set, ATL Trap, Philly, G-Unit '02 - '07),
....then around '07 the South was on top and we have the worst era in rap.

It really stuck out to me when I heard Future get demolished on Benz Friends by Andre 3000, the lyrics are so garbage these days.

This is why I can't listen to Gucci Mane or Future.

I think part of the problem is rappers today limit themselves and don't really seem like they ever really lived life or had life experience before this rap shyt. And on top of that they insist on telling they own boring azz story instead of just approaching it on some narrarator shyt,if you aint lived life just be the narrarator man. All these "its hard being famous cuz everybody jealous of all the money, cars, bytches I got" raps get stale after a while:mjlol:

Once you've seen greatness its hard to be impressed by anything else I must say....How can I tell these young nikkas "go be better than Kareem,Jordan,Magic,Kobe" and get mad they don't succeed like its such a simple thing:heh:...once you've seen these guys the only way to be impressed would be to see his superior.even seeing their equal probably wouldn't really impress you cuz you've already seen it.

Do I believe they could be better than guys from the 90's? Not saying its impossible cuz the only thing limiting them is lack of imagination,i would like to see the effort in that regard at least...bring some clever concepts to the table or something.

I just don't see the stars no more,i LIKE a bunch of nikkas but as far as somebody I can stan?nah:to:...But its nikkas I get a kick out of listening to today but it still aint the same, but I understand they struggle:mjpls:....And if you know people will never allow u to be better than the goats why try? Some have the heart to try anyway, the others just want to make they money and say fukk it....fans don't give nikkas a chance really

how you gonna complain about hip hop in 2014 and be on a hip hop forum that mainly talks about music made in 2014 :what:

be smart son.

the posters ARE the forum. and alot of the people on this board have been posting here for YEARS.

besides, half of the topics on this board are not current.

:what:

so let me get this str8:

these dudes is in here saying that the rap scene today is better than it was in the mid-00s because they think that the mid-00s was the snap era?

really b? the snap era? theres no such thing.

if thats the 1st thing that pops in your head when you think of the mid-00s, then you obviously were not into hip-hop back then. this place is the pits sometimes.
