Other than the fact that everybody raps, promotes, is an artist or aspiring model it's not so bad. You just have to pull away from society norms and find what makes you happy. The simple joys of good weed great sex and movie nights haven't changed. Sitting on the beach with a cooler full of cold drinks or people watching on the block on a nice day don't stop because of the internet. The fashion has changed but getting fly is a tradition that lives on. Read books, explore places you haven't been and keep it moving. There's too many experiences on this planet to have to blame an entire generation for your outlook. Life is bigger than hip hop classics and nostalgia. Sometimes I long for the 90s and early 2000s but I know someone a little younger than me will reminisce on this time as something sacred to them. You can't shyt on people for the circumstances and societal structure they were born into.

C/S this thread, but at the same time I've found a few new nikkas I rock with (I'll be honest most are carried by production more than skill, content or creativity) and I basically stick to them. I won't entertain the bullshyt argument "there's just as much good music" because there isn't, but if you open yourself up and just enjoy some of the new cats for what they are, you won't spend as much time harping in how everything sucks.

I stopped listening to shade 45 and hip hop nation entirely in favor of Backspin (80's and 90's) hiphop music. It's given me a new appreciation for the history of hiphop while highlighting just how terrible the current music scene is :/

BE SMART SON.

just because youre not mainstream, it doesnt mean that youre some random obscure artist.

and these obscure artists yall be hyping up on here that arent even known on their block, most of them aint even hot, for the record. most people just be fishing for an okay artist to hype up so they can say "i found him first before he blew up". nothing wrong with that but im saying.

we had like 30-40-50 classics in the 90s and a lot of them dropped in the 2000s but the 2010s is just so fukking bad.

isn't it crazy that we only talk about the same albums over and over again ? the media only talk about my beautiful dark twisted fantasy or good kid maad city, or Take Care... people and hip hop fans always talk about the same albums: MBDTF, GKMC, TAKE CARE, and you have a few nikkas who mention albums like Life is good or pinata.

I mean, I'm not mad, these are all amazing albums but we'll soon be in 2015 and we only have a few stand out albums for this decade.

What's happening ? we used to have so many albums to talk about 20 or 10 years ago

I'm taking hip hop over the last 5 years over 03-08

looks like this is one of those "cool things to repeat on rap forums".

cuz yall keep saying this but nobody ever attempts to put any meaning or logic behind those words.

i know. i was saying at 11, i thought X was the shyt and my uncle/older people that grew up listening to 80s, early 90s shyt was like fukk that nikka, ice cube! i know yall get my point mayne

youre arguing against your point dog.

you would have a point if you listed an older rapper that was inferior to DMX. but you did the opposite.

this is really a case of a kid thats new to the game thinking that what hes exposed to is automatically the greatest thing ever until his elders eventually swooped in and did their job. kudos to them.

My favorite rappers are usually obscure and i dont hype them up just so i can say that breh
underground in the 2010s is where its at - just becuz you dont know where to look dont mean you have to shyt on it

i know exactly where to look actuallly.

and if you dont hype up your obscure rappers, then what i said doesnt apply to you. i didnt use the term "everybody". i said "most".

i don't know if I'm anymore displeased with the current landscape of rappity rap in 2014 than i was in the early aughts when the post swizz boom had NYC creating some of the most abhorrent black music of all time. I m certainly more apathetic these days. I attribute that to:

A) ::flabbynsick:

B) The current rappers not being as ill as the rappers like state prop, Nas, Dips, G Unit, D block etc. who were dropping the ball back in those vile, vile aughts.

chickens come home. chickens roost. hooray hip hop!

the internet
its not just hip hop...its music in general.

mostly due to the internet. There is something about having to go to a record store and buying the album. You respect your purchase a lot more. When you bought a CD you listened to that shyt all the way through several times before deciding on which songs you liked the best...you went through the booklet, you carried a book of CDs with you in the car...none of that is going on now.
This shyt is disposable more so than ever.

Or it can just be the life cycle of music. Its happened to all the major genres in the past 100 yrs. It gets to a plateau, and then slowly declines until something else comes around.
Blues, Jazz, Rock, Country...and Hip Hop. All these genres had whats considered "the golden years"...Hip Hop's was in the 90's.

why yall acting like bootlegging and dubbing didnt already exist before downloading? most of the people yappin about the golden years(which werent neccessarily the '90s, btw) didnt buy most of their albums out the stores either.

stop reaching for excuses. if the music is bad or mediocre, then thats what it is.
