Instead of simply saying "No, I'd prefer to be your woman instead of your tenant, pick one", now she's shoved things into a negotiating corner and implicitly started a debate on the price of pantymeat and it's upkeep costs...and he's poorly communicated whatever's in his head and made it into a competition over money and ego when it doesn't need to be. i would not do this to a guy. i'd just let him pay house related expenses which would still be lower than whatever rent was.

if he wants a tenant, then she deserves her own room and a lease that gives her security that no matter if they're together or not she can stay there the remainder of her lease at that price.

also, they should sign some kinda roommate agreement listing the chores, but i'm sure when it comes to that suddenly he'll try to paint the living situation as a marriage tryout so its her responsibility

If you’re living together then split the costs. I don’t know about stacking rent on top, I agree that if he’s not paying a mortgage anymore then she shouldn’t pay actual “rent.” If he wants her to chip on HOA, utitilies, cable, internet, etc that makes sense.

the problem is he said the word rent. That is a trigger word for women. He could’ve said expenses or even utilities who cares it all goes towards paying off stuff but rent hits the women’s ego.

this is why you gotta find a woman who is on the same page with you. Many women only see men as expendable and a lot of the hot ones grew up with men doing everything for them. So of course they ain’t gonna want to help pay cause it’s a blow to the ego.
