i went back and listened and revisited the whole era.
nas won the battle in the eyes of the vast majority of rap fans and even jay conceded victory.
but, i base my opinion that jay won on one thing. when 2 people diss each other, whether in rap or just playing the dozens, the crowd's reaction is just one way to measure the fight. its the most used barometer and rightly so.
BUT
an underrated barometer is "who got angrier?". i cant say for sure because i dont know either of them, but i think being told that your baby mother is a whore after it was publicized that she was cheating on u would make a man angrier than being called a fakkit, soft, or a wack rapper. again im just speculating, but judging as a man, nothing nas said to jay z would make me as angry as shyt jay said to nas. u can even tell by the way he started ether. "i been fukked over left for dead dissed and forgotten" << words of a pissed off man. type of shyt nikkas that come out of jail say cause nobody was visiting them

ether was strong breh. he didnt expect nas to come back like that. obviously the ether burned but i dont think it hurt him as deeply in a personal way as he hurrt nas. nas was just smart enough not to do any interviews the day after any disses. probably woulda sounded the same way or worse if angie asked him "so did jay really fukk carmen's neck while u were still with her?"
