Claim that today's guards couldn't transition to an era where Mark Price and Latrell Sprewell made 1st-team All-NBA. :russ:

MJ hardly ever had a meaningful game where he was up against an athletic defender his size who was elite at defense. All the great perimeter defenders in his era were both smaller and less athletic than he was. I mean, the Bulls even said once that the Blazers were a tough matchup just cause their guards had length, and Porter/Drexler had terrible defensive IQ.

In this era there are a TON of big swing players who can play elite defense. Think of the guys who have played in the last 15 years: Kawhi, PG13, Iggy, Bron, Butler, Klay, Anunoby, Middleton, Thybulle, Covington, Gordon, Roberson, Butler, Thabo, Batum, Deng, Ariza, Kobe, Battier, Marion, Artest, Bowen, Prince. Every single one of those guys is longer than MJ and can play elite defense. I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty - and not even counting guys like Marcus Smart, Dejonte Murray, Tony Allen who are slightly smaller but play big, or 4/5s like Tucker, Draymond, AD, Crowder, etc. who can legitimate play on the perimeter.

If Tatum, Brown, Lonzo, Aminu etc. were playing in the 1990s, they'd immediately be considered some of the best matchups to guard MJ. Would they even be top-10 or top-15 in that category today?

The 3point shot is too easy and too valuable.

You want less 3s, make it harder. You cant really back it up much for the corner, so maybe eliminate corner 3s altogether and move the line back

I'm fine with the game as is and have played it all my life, but I seem to be the minority here.

You're one of the minority even talking about why it's actually true and what you can do about it too. :francis:

Basketball talk here has devolved to youtube comments status. If you actually look into the game at all or do anything more than emoting the day's hot take, then you're getting too into the game for most posters to handle.

If you had those 35 guys to choose from....

And your other options were Jeff Hornacek, Bryon Russell, Reggie Miller, Derrick McKey, Chris Mullin, Nick Anderson, Penny Hardaway, Dennis Scott, John Starks, Anthony Mason, Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, Richard Dumas, Clyde Drexler, and Terry Porter....

Then which group would you pick to defend MJ better?

Aminu would be a better defender on MJ than anyone the Jazz had. Ball would be a better defender than what the Pacers or Magic were trying to play. Tatum and Brown would be a better pairing than anything the Blazers or the Knicks had. And those were the 5 teams that played MJ the CLOSEST.....yet their perimeter defenders wouldn't even make top-30 in today's game.

Can you disprove that or no?

Mavs defense was ass but GSW actually runs an offense that isn't just pick and roll/jacking 3s. The Mavs offense is just straight Morey-ball though, I can't watch them play at all.

Yep. The game was interesting in the sense that even though both teams took a lot of threes, GS was actually moving the ball, screening, back cuts, going to the basket and dishing, etc. Meaning they were actually playing ball that led to mostly open 3s. Which is really what they've always done, take most of their 3s in the flow of their offense. On the other hand Dallas was really just standing around shooting 3s with little to no action. KP basically was a spot-up shooter even though the tallest Warrior must've been Wiggins lmao. Boban only played in garbage time. Luka didn't really venture in the paint. Dallas was horrific, GS actually played a good game, especially being undersized and with so many players out. Lots of energy too. Warriors highlights should show a lot of great passing that led to lay-ups, dunks, and wide open 3s.

What a dumb thread even if this was the case there are equally as many exciting finishes with solid game all around...

shytty hot take :stopitslime:
No there isn't, damn near every team has players just jacking up bullshyt shots. It's not even a hot take because so many people have said the same thing, and the declining ratings are proof that people aren't interested in this style of play.

The best solution would be too radical of a rule change. Make it take it. If it was make it take it, teams would care about getting the easiest shot, and not the most efficient ones. It would definitely solve the issue of too many threes attempted. But it’s too big of a rule change

I agree. At least when Golden State was doing it, a breh like Shaun Livingston would come off the bench and midrange you to death.

Today, im not sure I want to watch a bunch of PnR and guys standing in the corner waiting for the pass off a switch to lob a three at the basket.

Someone needs to create the defensive version of the triangle to kill this shyt.

:ohhh:

Unless it’s the Playoffs or some max 1-2 min highlights I have absolutely 0 motivation to watch NBA basketball. Glorified 3-point contests.

Thanks Steph/Klay (3s) and Harden (step backs)

You have a team with literally no real center on their roster, Versus a team that has multiple 7 footers, and players don’t don’t even shoot well from 3, and they chose to try to out shoot the warriors :hhh: Rick Carlisle should be fired, that game was absolutely inexcusable.
