That was significantly better basketball. Teams played differently. You had tougher defenses. Players had more diverse skill sets compared to today's specialists.

Well to be fair if Drazen and Sabonis had legit NBA careers they would have been nice.

The NBA went from being a tape delay sport in the 70s 80s to a legit global sport in the 90s so yeah it would take a while for the global talent pool to increase.

All you really have to do is make it less of a viable strategy. Bring back handchecking and get rid of zone defenses. It'll be harder for perimeter players to drive and kick, and there will be no zone to try shooting over.
