They have tons of libraries all over that city.

That money is needed in urban programs that dont gentrify
it's a presidential library, not a public library. :francis:

every president got a library, it's more like a museum about his presidency than anything.

it's better in chicago than in hawaii or harvard or some shyt.

maybe they can find a better location that won't displace people though? i don't know, i haven't followed the story.

breh that's still gentrification

just cause some black faces is pushing out some other ones and they have good credit, doesn't make it any better.

People have been talking about the gentrification of the south side for years. It's NOT a thing. The south side, in fact, lacks a lot of the things that become the catalyst for gentrification such as density.
If there has been any type of gentrification in the area, it has been middle-class professional blacks, replacing lower income blacks. Lower income blacks are being pushed to the formally middle class black south suburban suburbs.

I see mfers is ignoring the second part of the thread title :mjpls:
does the city spend money on the library though? i thought the money came from obama's own foundation for the library.

i don't see why there can't be both. :patrice:

yeah they have a library like every few miles in my city too...all of them put to good use, kids stay in there after school, weekends, summers. libraries and urban programs arent mutually exclusive lol

Yeah it does.
I would rather that the community stay black with black professionals who could go anywhere but decided to come back and invest in their communities, then it turn white with folks who don't give af about us and our history on the south side.

Ya'll brehs are never satisfied. We talk about black folks leaving their communities when they get a little bit of money, but when they come back and put down roots, we get mad because it pushes people out. That's they way the world works, breh.

Them nikkas are plants and getting paid by Friends of The Park to obstruct building of the library in Jackson Park. FOTP is pissed off because they don't have a seat at the table of decision making so they are trying to get the plans nixed like they did with the George Lucas Star Wars Museum.

FOTP is made up of cacs from the North Shore, who don't come down to the south side at all, trying to decide what's best for black south side residents. They have been launching south side "grassroots" organizations that they are funding to make it appear like there is all this opposition to the museum from black residents when it's not.

I personally worked on a campaign to get Jackson Park Golf Course and South Shore Country Club connected as well as restored so that it can be Chicago's only tournament quality course and FOTP has been nothing but bytches. They don't know shyt about the south side and they want decision making power.

some are plants, but some are youngsters who just dont know what the fuk they're talking about.

if they are part of the latter, even though i disagree i dont mind them getting involved in the political process

the shyt about friends of the parks is hilarious though...go deep enough and im sure you'll find a lot of those women married to or otherwise connected to developers who dont want the competition from the south

This is a way better location on the southside, a big plot of vacant land(2-3 blocks)right by beach & park
This is the same land they was giving to amazon for their new location..

We “get mad because it pushes people out” because that’s their homes and they’ve been living their longer than the new transplants that are moving in and rasining the cost of rent

I’m not against anybody moving anywhere.

however to act like we should turn a blind eye to the displacement of poor and working faimilies who have just as much right to be there as any one else professional middle class or otherwise, is not what community should be founded on

Yeah it does.
