You might be right :whoo:

Last years GOTY got two hate threads
That's what happens when your game is actually overrated :manny:

TYRONE GA!
@Fatboi1 does this tho.

He really does think the game is overrated but he will make it like he’s “trolling” so he don’t actually have to stand on it.
But he made this thread IMMEDIATELY AFTER the awards clearly trolling after many said the same thing. We all knew the game was gonna Thriller the competition. The overkill was hilarious tho.

I’m 100000000000000% sure if this was a squaresoft timed Sony exclusive @Fatboi1 woulda stanned this shyt in a way we’ve never seen before :wow:

Every alleged cult member has been giving the game it’s flowers since release

Meanwhile your partner in crime was having sleepless nights and spiraling in threads the past 12 months simply over GOTY being exclusive to a platform he pretends not to hate :wow:

GOY>>>This imo. I didn't particularly enjoy the moments outside of battles, it felt kind of boring at times just roaming the dungeons as they felt mostly empty and pointless besides a couple of extra boss fights.

:patrice:

But maybe he's trolling (he's trolling but he's also telling you how he low-key really feels)

:mjlol:

It would be top 3 GOTY though but not #1. If Yotei wasn't out then yeah I'd say this would be GOTY.
Now you tell me what matches closest to the OP, this comment from the Expedition 33 thread or what you talking about :mjlol:

Yeah all jokes aside I definitely like GOY over Claire Oscure overall. The lack of maps inside of dungeons caused some areas where it felt like I was running in circles trying to figure out where to go and constantly fighting enemies over and over. It got old quick and I just ended up wanting to finish the game. It was a great game, but I'm not going to pretend it's better than Rebirth as far as an RPG goes. I didn't even care for the characters like that, like the little moments where you can bond with the party just was meh to me. I just didn't really care for the characters as much.

It's better than XVI though.

I'd give Claire like an 8.5/10 imo from what I played. GOY is a 9. Rebirth like a 9.5, XVI a 7/10.

:yeshrug: People saying "it's the best RPG i've ever played my life" or some shyt is just wild glaze. I've played far more interesting like SMT3.

The truth is a lot of people don’t like japanese story telling or the way they act.

Also, a lot of JRPG’s are geared towards YA/Shonen level storytelling. Usually teenagers, feining romantic interest, “training to be the best”, power of friendship, etc.

Truth be told I don't even like Japanese RPGS like that outside of FFVII and Persona 4/5, I couldn't care less about shonen or those @winb83 type of games. Like when Gustave got murked by Renoir in the middle of his battle, I was like "This type of cinematic boss fight reminds me of fighting the Turks in Rebirth."

I was like okay there's some heavy glazing going on because Rebirth has a plethora of amazing boss battles like this but going online you'd swear Rebirth was just a game that had you forced to play a card game every 20 minutes.:francis:

JRPGs are basically the same market as Shounen manga, so it makes sense. Look at Persona and Metaphor; they have some ambitious storytelling at the start of the games, but they don't take the risks in their stories like Expedition 33 did with its big reveal.

The biggest thing is Act III in those games; they play it too safe, and those games don't live up to their potential. It's a constant thing with all the Persona games. Meanwhile, in Expedition 33, its 3rd act elevates the game to another level. Even if the game design in terms of exploration in Act III was its only flaw in Expedition 33.

I mentioned it before. FF, NieR/Drakengard, and SMT are really the only Japanese-made JRPGs where you get some mature storytelling. Rest of the genre leads to the Shounen stuff, as you mentioned.

It was my main point of contention with metaphor also, it starts out with such a strong premise and ends up being “killing god with the power of friendship” trope.

And yeah, it’s why a lot of grown men that play big single player games don’t gravitate toward the genre in the west because it’s like playing the maze runner, divergent or hunger games, the game. Grown up’s aren’t really gravitating toward tropes that are built around adolescent storytelling
