Face could do 3 :ohhh:
Diary should have been unanimous :francis:
@SirBiatch you'll pay for this

I bet half of the people voting for The Diary are mute posters who don't even listen to that album nor own it. They just heard "it's classic" and voted.

34 people voted, and yet I don't see multiple explanations for why Diary is a beloved classic? :duck:

Untouchable isn't a classic as far as impact/reputation, but it's as good as any of his albums.

No Warning:birdman:

Part of this process is going off consensus though. They should be voting yes if they've heard its a classic. :yeshrug:
The Diary is when Face became "elite". It was considered a classic in real time. Then the Source went back and then gave it 5, evidence it was still considered a classic.
The production is top notch throughout. The rhymes :wow:
Classic single.
Classic collab with Cube.
What more do you want?

It has raw, emotional Scarface records, and just gully sh1tlike Jesse James, good production and the hooks are catchy.

What's not to like BRO?

Yeah I kinda suspect the only other artists/groups than Pac to get votes for three classics in these polls is gonna be Outkast.

Okay:

No on Mr. Scarface Is Back. I just don't think it is seen that way. Dope nonetheless.

Yes on The World Is Yours. People who are really into Face say it's his best.
Like - My uncle is in his 50s. He doesn't listen to any rap but Face. He says this is his best album.
I won't hold him, this has a couple of my favorite Face cuts on it. And I would say this is the beginning
of the...more laid back Face that has come to characterize him.

Absolutely Yes on The Diary. Masterpiece. I think it's the best Face album top to bottom. This is a prime example of an album where
the deep tracks eclipse the singles - and that's saying something, because they were some powerful singles.

Yes on The Untouchable. This is the "L.A." Face album. And it did a good job being that without
compromising Face. He was admittedly high the whole time while doing this album, which explains
how he went so deep topically. Also, "Game Over"? C'mon - we're probably never gonna get a lineup like we got there again.

No on My Homies. It's a comp, mayne.

Yes on The Fix. Another masterpiece. Some of the greatest Face verses of all-time on here.

I'm not saying he should have had mainstream producers. Just good producers. Dude did way too much work with NO Joe and Mike Dean. How do you have the same mediocre producers for 3 straight albums? They occasionally made great shyt, but there's a lot of songs between those 3 albums that had meh beats.

Since beats are the foundation of this hip hop shyt, the first thing I notice when we talk about whether something's a classic or not is the production. If the production's not there, it's not a classic to me. The only exception is if the rhyme content is so revolutionary (e.g. Amerikka's Most Wanted, It Takes A nation of Millions) that I can let those albums slide, even if I personally never play them.

The Diary is a good album. Mr Scarface is also a good album. So is The Fix. But great the whole through? I dunno about that.

another great song:

Did you just imply that AMW and Nations both have wack beats?

yep. have I blasphemed?

I'm not a fan of the production. not a fan of Bomb Squad style in general (I respect the shyt out of it tho - without Bomb Squad there's no RZA.)

nikka Ya Love To Hate is a fire beat though. Can't remember any other beats off AMW.

Are you a fan? You listen to those albums all the time front to back?

Been a fan practically since I started listening to Hip Hop. I listen to both of them all the time front to back, AMW in particular stays on my iPhone, it's one of my fav albums ever and Cubes best IMO. Nation they hadn't fully hit their stride with their signature sound (I think AMW and FOABP do that) but Nation is probably when they first got that signature sound that they're known for and people love so much.

What don't you like about the production?

Too discordant and overstuffed. I understand the idea behind it: it shows chaos really well.

But it's not smooth to listen to. And I like smooth. Simple but complex.

My favorite P.E. beat is Public Enemy No. 1. They were obviously doing something right because Puff lifted that shyt wholesale almost 15 years later and that shyt still rocked.

I'd take FOABP over A Nation
