You know what's more a symbol of america than the flag? Its People. And we do all types of atrocious shyt to that symbol on a daily basis. When we start respecting America's people, I'll be more willing to have a debate about respecting an image.
I would never personally burn a flag, as I respect what it means to those who deeply respect it, much like i'd never burn a religious book simply because I'm not that religion. For me it's more a respect thing.
That being said, I also understand why SOME people burn it in protest and I support their right to do so.
So no, a fine is idiotic. We don't need more fines and rules to be used against American people. IF MONEY is speech, the my actions are speech and if MONEY can be protected by the first amendment, then so can my actions.

However, I consider myself a Progressive on economics
However, with this flag burning thing I think some type of criminal penalty should happen. Yeah, I know that it's protected as freedom of speech, but that's just too far
In my opinion, I'm all for protesting unjust laws. I continue to do it all the time. With pushing prison/criminal justice reform and ending income inequality
I just always felt that flag-burning is regressive. That's just my opinion. It solves nothing and is non-productive.
