On a John Woo Kick Lately, last night was Broken Arrow. Love the soundtrack, was so inspired by Hans Zimmer I made this mock up simple beat out of the main theme.
HUMAN ANIMALS (1983)
Two men and one woman are the last people on Earth. They are reduced to savagery, mate with the woman, and they learn to survive on a deserted island. They discover a dog living on the island with them, and the woman takes the dog as a lover, too.
Dope watch. A slow burn horror story that taps into existential dread is exactly what I needed right now. Can’t place it above Hill House, but to me it satisfied me way more than Bly Manor. Ending could’ve been better and I feel like I’ve said this for each of his shows so far. The build-up to the penultimate episode seriously makes up for it though.
I usually like the monologues in Flanagan’s shows but they felt way overdone here. They can immerse you into the story if you’re super dialed in though it’s pretty easy to drift asleep or wander on the phone during them. And yup, I was guilty of doing just that.
