I'm actually planning on going for my masters in Cyber Security in the Spring. Its only a year and thankfully my job will help cover most of the cost.

Definitely tell him to take that Cyber security track.

CCIE is good too. I also hear that a lot of places are looking for CISA also.

Most cybersecurity programs require either a bachelors in Information Sciences/Technology or Computer Science. You're set with your bachelors in IT. Many universities just began implementing cyber security programs.
