real talk I probably listened to the show twice since Pete been gone. Not saying he was the star but there's just so much comp out here and CJ ain't getting it done

:yeshrug:

Let's be real. I like Pete and enjoyed his fukkery, but no on was listening to the show because of Pete. Sometimes Pete would only talk 5 minutes in a whole episode and it would be some non sequitur point about jail or something.

I wish he was still on the show, but let's not act like CJ Show has changed all that much since Pete left.

I miss the old cast. I used to just walk around the neighborhood for hours listening to Combat, Pete, Dallas, Matt Raz etc talk shyt. Yea this made interviews too chaotic but I had hoped they'd do something like have the first 30-40 minutes be fukkery and then do the interview with just Combat asking questions and making Dallas or Penn interjecting here or there. That shyt was fun and it kept Combat grounded.

The thing I hate, which he's been doing for years, is how scatter brained he handles things. For instance how many times does this happen:

Combat: So how did you meet such and such
Guest: Well before I moved to NY I lived in Texas and -
Combat: what was Texas like growing up man
Guest: Texas was cool. My grandma was from Haiti so -
Combat: you ever been to Haiti?

:francis:

Let people speak man. If they're telling a story you don't gotta interrupt. Take notes and then ask side questions after they finish their original thought/story.

Rosenberg does this too, but he makes it worse by going on tangets that aren't connected to the guest. Like the guest will mention he was in Queens and suddenly Rosenberg gotta ask Juan a random personal question like "btw Juan remember that guy in Queens, the laundry guy? Did you give him the quarters? Word? Ok. Sorry, ok tell us how you produced on Illmatic."

Lmao

Listened to Pete's first two episodes of his show.....its quirky and not an uniform as CBJ...and that can be refreshing...will see how it goes...
The first episode with Just was cool... I still havent listened to the Sean Price jawn but if he's gonna have all of the old members of the show on as rotating guests then it might be worth listening to

For anyone who hasn't check out Ice-Ts podcast. He goes waaaay back in time with his guest but Ice and Mick have great chemistry so you're laughing or learning history the whole podcast.

i did like it when guys like Dallas, Pete, Just were all together on CJ, they did give it something extra but Combat Jack Show for the most part has always been a guest driven podcast..its never been a must listen every week. same w/ Juan Ep..although i do like certain episodes when its Rosenberg and Ciph just shooting the shyt because i like Ciph (not the newest episode though)

time will tell if Jack will need the foil of Dallas or Pete's ilk again.

He had SP wife up there and had calls from Buckshot and Dru Ha...looks like Pete actually does have as many industry contacts as CBJ.... so looks like he will not be short of guests....I wondered if Pete would be able to get folks on the show...

I hope to continue to enjoying both shows....no need to choose sides unless I get sick of one or the other

Valid criticism in this thread. But Combat Jack is still the king. Even tho he's been slummin in 2016, the Eric B and No Malice interviews were both A+. Nobody does in depth hip hop interviews better than Jack, only thing I've heard on that level was Fat Joe and Remy on Rap Radar. The Peter Shue, Kierna Mayo, Freeway, Statik Selectah episodes were all very good too...so can't be too hard on him. Like somebody else said theres just so much competition now...

Problem is Jack doesn't seem to enjoy his role as the old head/historian. Seems like he would rather be Taxstone if he could. I didn't bother listening to the Tray Pizzy joint cuz I know Combat doesn't know shyt about these guys. And bringing in these little twitter famous co hosts isn't working either.
