Yeah, it's ridiculous, and the vaccine roll-out had been shambolic. Having been given the luckiest of hands throughout the whole pandemic, the messaging around getting vaccinated has been awful, and now here we are.

I will say that the population in general has been very ambivalent about getting vaccinated, as we've had pretty much no covid for the best part of the last year, except for what has been brought into the country, but then we got hit by the Delta variant, and it feels as if New South Wales will be in lockdown until Christmas. The case numbers are relatively low, though. We're at 750 - 800 new cases per day, and deaths & hospitalisations remain low.

But in early July, with citizens over the age of 60 almost completely vaccinated, Israeli scientists began observing a worrisome rise in infections—if not in severe illness and death—among the double-vaccinated.

Fully vaccinated people with weakened immune systems appeared particularly vulnerable to the aggressive Delta variant.
