EDIT: Israel is hardly 'ultra-vaxxed'. They are still hovering right around 60% vaccinated. They're being talked about like a pinnacle of vaccination, but they aren't nearly where they need to be, and 60% just doesn't justify The Daily Beast making an article title like this that will understandably scare people. Canada, Belgium, Iceland, Denmark, Chile, and Uruguay all have higher vaccination rates at this point. We should be looking at countries with 70% + vaccination rates, not Israel. Israel started celebrating and re-opening pretty early.

Just to add some positivty, they have a few more interesting factors.

They got people vaxxed faster, and waited less time between the 1st and 2nd shots in Israel. They likely didn't wait long enough between shots #1 and #2. They also gave boosters likely too fast. And when reading the article, most of the people being hospitalized are still over 60 years old, and/or have multiple other co-morbidities.

Fully vaxxed still people are still overwhelmingly not going to the hospital or dying from this thing, even the Delta variant. There are more breakthrough cases than we hoped for, but the vaccine is still preventing serious complications, illnesses, and death. And it's still the best tool we have to fight this thing right now.

There's also this: Israel's COVID-19 vaccine boosters show signs of taming Delta

Yeah - saw this in one of the newspapers over the weekend. He'll be in jail pretty sharpish, presuming Covid doesn't off him first.

TBF, if he's probably in as much danger from being caught by some parents who have been forced into homeschooling, and have been in lockdown with their families for the last month. Most of my mates with kids are now pretty much borderline alcoholics after the trauma of it. :russ:

They'll come down on all of these fukkos really hard - I think that the rugby league guy in the video is about to be sacked by his team over this, as he's a well-known wrong'un.

So frustrating that idiots like this will be responsible for us being locked down until probably Christmas.

NSW is getting ready to let it rip. She don’t care no more.

what the govt needs to do to get people vaccinated is show them the cost of their hospital stay when they get covid w/o the vaccine...guaranteed that will get their asses in line

they might believe facebook over their doctor but they damn sure won't be willing to bite that financial bullet
Actually not a bad idea at all. I like this.

I've seen a ton of criticism leveled at the government and the media for having poor communication to the people during this entire pandemic. And I'm not excusing that. They have. But I just wanted to add a caveat to come to the defense of the scientists, public health officials, media, and government (if only a tiny bit).

This is a virus that is totally novel, and a rapidly changing situation where things can be entirely different from one month to the next. Best practices can change fast, and what experts think is bad/good/neutral one week may change the next week. This is why conspiracy theorists often look back at initial news reports of huge events being different than later news reports as being 'evidence of a conspiracy' when in reality, the early news is just usually more likely to be misreported or not the complete picture.

Our education system has really failed in terms of teaching people that science is a process and not a rigid belief system. Just because scientists are saying one thing right now that might be very different than one year ago does not mean that they were lying one year ago. The best we can do is work from the best info we have at any given time. We understand more about this virus with every passing day, and there's still so much to learn. I wish people would stop viewing changes in messaging as evidence in every instance that they're being lied to, or that there's a conspiracy, or that scientists and medical experts don't know what they're talking about.

This is true but I don't believe they've preached caution enough. Of course, the reason for that could very well be that this has all been so heavily politicized that they are hesitant to advise extreme caution.

Yep - I think that NSW will go it alone as soon as we hit 70% of adult population fully vaccinated. Leave Dan fukking Andrews, Crazy Anna, and that walloper in WA to do whatever the fukk they can to contain the Delta variant whilst keeping their borders shut.

I am fine with what has been done throughout the pandemic in Oz, and, as said, we've had it good. It's been as close to normal life as possible for NSW, but I think that a zero-covid strategy with the Delta variant seems almost impossible, and a pivot needs to happen. Hell, if NZ can't contain it then maybe nowhere can.

I got fully vaccinated as soon as I could, but I have very little confidence in efficacy of masks to reduce transmission let alone end this pandemic.

I remember when people were claiming Asian countries like Japan and Vietnam showed how masking/compliance to public health directives are the way out.

Have any of those people revisited those claims? Mask compliance very high in both countries since 2020, and yet pandemic as bad as it’s been for either at this stage. Same for a lot of Southeast Asia.

At what point do people revisit idea masks make a major difference? Beyond that, what is the point if COVID is bound to be endemic? What is the target?

at least they admitted the plastic barriers don't work, I'm horrified by the amount of waste
