Could Jay-z ever do a record like Poison/What Goes Around?

Two different lanes, one's a drug dealer and one's a nikka trying to make it to Africa.

It'll just be weird for Jay Z to make songs like that, it's not in his character.
This. Jay knows what he's good at and sticks to it, same with Nas. From a content standpoint they're completely different artists.

I don't get cats who say Jay can't tell stories either, "Meet The Parents", "You Must Love Me", "D'evils" all demonstrate this skill, and that's just off the top of the head.

I thought the Friend or Foes were brilliant

Didn't he tell us his presence is charity? Stop asking questions a knowledgable member of the hip hop community already knows.....

Keep Nasir's relevance alive by any means brehs

it's not that he couldn't make a song like this...it just wouldn't be as impressive.

Only thing Nas did was speak about the ills of his people and community and the world @ large. How is that out of character for a black man to tell the truth about his people? Dudes get a pass for never stepping up and saying anything. Jay will code certain shyt and hide it from people, but Nas will come out and just say the shyt straight up.

I can see if Poison was way out there and off beat and kilter but nah. Poison/What Goes Around goes back to what hip hop/rap was original for reporting problems, giving solutions, and enlightenment. If you the GOAT then that should not only be in your repertoire but a major asset in your arsenal.

I went through many phases growing up where I thought certain rappers were the best. Jay had his phase, Eminem had his, but as you grow and move around and see the world and you return to the music it doesn't mean as much. Seeing Jay make music now is hard because he's trapped talking about his wealth, his wife, and brands. Somebody who's been the places he's been and seen the things he's seen...why is his content so shallow and boring?

He's got freestyles that are more acclaimed :dead:.
Jay can do everything Nas can but the inverse is not true, that doesn't necessarily make him a better rapper but it's true.

:mjlol: There is no way a sane, rational person can actually believe this.
Give me any track and I'll give you Jays equivalent and it'll be a great ass track.
But I can give you tracks that Jay has done that are classic where Nas failed miserably trying the same type of track.

There's a reason why Jay can be favorite rapper of the most ignorant street rappers, the conscious rappers, the club rappers, the cocaine rappers, the ballin rappers, the straight spitters, the freestylers and on. And Nas usually is the favorite of only "Street poet"/"Conscious rapper" type of of rappers.

If you look at Nas's 20 best songs there's like 2-3 categories of songs while Jay probably has like 10 categories.

However as I said that does not mean that Jay is a better rapper, just means that he can do more things. Just like, Kobe can shoot with his left hand doesn't mean that he's better than Jordan.

You Nas stans will never let your stanning opinions give props to your favorite rappers competitors.

Can Jay make an album as good as Illmatic? And if so, why hasn't he?

No.

Every time he's tried, it sometimes comes back to being about him.
If Jay-Z was tasked with writing a verse about the genocide in the Congo under King Leopold, he would just talk about how it makes him sad to think about it and probably get on some woe-is-me self-absorbed shyt about how he feels guilty for all his bottle popping and Bentleys.

Then he would inevitably end up comparing himself to Patrice Lumumba.
