Rewind
2nd Childhood
You're Da Man

And that's just from Stillmatic

*Prays for the day people don't feel the need to legitimize their tastes by comparing their favorite artists to others.*

I definitely agree with this and Internet has created a platform where people can comfortably humiliate and denounce another artist without repercussion which has created this fanatic appreciation of an artist. BUT, when artist such as Nas and Jay put themselves out there by having a battle I think any reasonable critique of said artists is fair.

I don't think anyone need to legitimize the stature of Nas or Jay Z, they have both accomplished and earned their position in rap as the best. I don't see any harm in comparisons, although we know what the intentions of this thread was. With that said, do you think Jay can make a song like What Goes Around?

The most accurate thing said in the Jay vs Nas battle was "I gave you life when nikkaz was forgettin you MC"

I dont have a favorite between Hov and Nas, but Hov was 100% correct

nikkaz use Stillmatic to discredit Hov when nikkaz should be thankin Hov for Stillmatic

Before Hov made Nas step his shyt back up son was rappin bout chicks tastin like banana cake shaped like the number 8

This is like asking if Stevie Wonder can dance like Michael Jackson.

And in turn, it's also like asking if Michael Jackson can play piano like Stevie Wonder.

See what I mean

That's actually pretty clever :ohhh:

And how did Hov give him life when he was still selling platinum records a mere 2 years before Stillmatic? Both I Am and Nastradamus went platinum in 1 month each, and were both released the same year. And I Am is a dope record.

This came out 2 years before Stillmatic so I really don't see where you're coming from. I wasn't listening to rap then or aware of how Nas was being perceived, but I kind of doubt dudes were forgetting he could spit.

Jay wrote Minority Report, Where I'm from, Dynasty Intro and D' Evils; therefore, it won't be difficult for him to create a song like Poison. Those thought provoking songs that I mentioned are written with complex rhymes. Whereas Poison is a straight forward song and has a little narrative at the end of the song. Any rapper can take any demonic element from a harsh environment and called it Poison. It doesn't take too much thought to develop a song like Poison.

Fetus and Rewind would have been a stronger case if the Op really wanted to denounced Jay's creativity.

Around late 99 Nas lost mad respect especially with Nastradamus and them Mariah Carrey joints

By 2001 Nas was considered washed up, nobody was checkin for Nas

those songs are no where near as complex as fetus and rewind in terms of rhyming as those nas songs.

RD is every bit as good as illmatic. One being better than the other is pure opinion, but they're both top ten albums of all time(hip hop)

If you can't see that you're a Stan who doesn't doesnt deserve the attention. I don't have a favorite between the two, it interchanges between my mood and there current releases. I might say blue print is better than illmatic one day, and might say gods son is better than RD. just depends on my mood

As far as jay not being able to tell a story that's bs

He has at leant one per album and rd has like 4
RD is a classic. Amazing album. But it is not in the same strata as Illmatic. Illmatic is a top ten hip hop album. RD is not.
That's not my opinion. That is simply how the two albums are perceived by the hip hop community. You may not agree, but to question that is to demonstrate a lack of knowledge and awareness of hip hop.
I will say this. Jay is rhyming on the same level as Illmatic Nas on RD. The production is what holds it back.
