the special is so much more than that joke, so much more....one of my favorites

they showed the women put a pot on the stove on and a man will show up bit :dead: classic

good to see how Chris fell, got up, learned from Martin and preachers, got a new perspective and delivered a classic

That was great,I always assumed he was just naturally great. To hear he went through getting booed for a good 3 years to become great,is real motivation.

Interesting how different generations view the same material. Fact if the matter is this is probably one of greatest stand up specials of all time and now all of a sudden people get caught up off of one bit which as someone who actually lived through that era thought that bit was funny as fukk. Shyt my cousin was watching it with me that night and he thought it was funny and he was a convicted felon.

We gotta stop concerning our selves with the thoughts and actions of white people. I know Chris regrets that bit now but the current wave of racism disguised as comedy wasnt his fault.

Yeah okay:rudy:.

He actually regretted the fact white people took it and ran with it,but stood by the joke if you watched the documentary. Far as you calling me anything,I feel nothing since you cuss everybody out like a fiesty auntee on here:mjlol:

Hopefully you grow into your manhood one day and stop that, very feminine behavior:martin:
I didn’t “cuss” you out and don’t curse “everybody” out. I simply respond to the constant trolling and c00ning that you people exhibit with disrespect as I should. Others should too.

Rock even admits that the joke came from someone who was unsophisticated and minimallly educated. The reason that rock, you and other c00ns who like the joke admit that you’re uncomfortable with whites laughing at it is because you know that they see all blacks as “******s” regardless if you’re willfully ignorant and dysfunctional or not. They see you as the same as the hood rat or dusty dude in the hood. That respectability shyt means nothing to whites.

Rock’s joke basically co-signs white supremacy. White supremacy says some/most blacks are ignorant dysfunctional (sub)humans who are inherently prone to being degenerates. Rock’s joke does nothing but reinforce that. Nowhere in that joke does he call out whites and their system that creates the ignorance and dysfunction. He basically implies that some blacks are just born not to be shyt.

Again, if you don’t have the courage to call out the system that is purposely designed to keep blacks ignorant and dysfunctional, then don’t say shyt about the ignorant and dysfunctional blacks either. It’s that simple. There are a millions ways to laugh and make fun of “ignant nikka” behavior without co-signing white supremacy.

I was a teenager back then and tho I was smart not enough to see the flaw in that joke even as a youngin, I wasn’t that into pop culture and wasn’t quite aware of the correlation between Rock blowing up in mainstream white America, and that particular brand of racial humor. Skimming that documentary, and now it makes perfect sense.

I think it’s good to see how it would be received today. It’s a reflection of how much more sensitive we’ve become over the past 20 years.

In the same way we look back at Eddie Murphy Delirious. The over the top homophobia is cringe to look at now but it was a sign of the times.
Homophobia??:dahell:

It's DISGUST not fear we feel. Go blow open all the a$$holes u want with that shytty cock. But youre insane if you think I'mma let some CAC teach my children, neices, nephews that they HAVE to accept these perverts as normalor they're "bullies"

It's a funny skit but even Rock knew that the white supremacists basically brought the joke and use it against all Black people

I didn't say I had a problem with whites laughing at it,I have no thoughts about what whites THINK about the joke,i could care less. I have a problem with whites taking the joke out of context, and using it to be racist. But that isn't a problem with the joke, thats a problem of white people doing what they do. Plus are you pretending Chris Rock didn't attack white supremacist on that special, just because he didn't on that joke?

Seems like you might just enjoy taking people out of context too, in order to try to make a point then:martin:. Chris Rock was saying his joke wasn't meant to be some sort of deep political statement,or speaking on behalf of the black elitist,or "silenced" blacks living in the hood, like some of the people in the documentary were trying to gas it up to mean. Thats what he meant in saying he was unsophisticated/minimally educated. I will admit I'm uncomfortable seeing how some of the black elitist like Oprah enjoyed that joke:martin:. But Chris wasn't intending to be the voice for those people and their europeanized ideologies, and their black insecurities. Which is why he was suprised about the minor backlash.

If Chris Rock says he was unsophisticated/minimally educated and wasn't trying to be that deep. Did you ever think its the fault of people who were being too smart and thinking too hard about a joke on a comedy special:snoop:.

This joke turning into what it was,Is the fault of racist and insecure black people. I too have a problem with black people not liking the joke because white people found it funny, and actually thinking white people needed that joke to justify their racism.

Thing is, this isn't new age criticism

It's always been a polarizing joke and it drew heat with some audiences when he was performing it

I didnt realize him and his brother weren't close.

Kinda odd/sad to hear him say that at the end

I don’t think I ever heard Chris even acknowledged his brother in interviews. I know they are related but this is the first time I seen pictures of them together

The joke was funny to me then and still funny now. It definitely has some cringe in there but so does a lot of comedians jokes and rappers music. There was a time where a comedian was the king/queen in the black community but white people didn’t know or care about them... A good example is Robin Harris. There’s no telling where he would be if he was able to be here to voice that Bebe’s Kids movie and watch what it did. He was the man to us but he didn’t get a chance to truly crossover. Comedians are too focused on trying to crossover now. Anyway, it’s getting old to see black folks putting Revisiting history to tear down legends because of some jokes. They ain’t trading down the resident comic view comedians, they’re talking bad about Chris Rock because he is one of the ones that made it. White people are consuming this content just as much if not more than black folks. They’re at home singing these songs killing black folks and degrading black women. They’re saying nikka/er while re telling these jokes or singing these songs. White folks hade been talking shyt about us since before any of us on this board was born... this joke did not make or break anything... it just gave white foljd more shyt to say.
