I don't know if they owned it or their label owned it at the time MJ bought it. I'd imagine MJ bought it from the label.
And alot of the value is based on potential money. Movies, commercials, re-makes, samples etc
I'm saying in the sense that they've released and re-released every album on itunes etc., so everything is pretty much out there in high quality.
i did a quick search and 2 of their greatest hits albums are in the top 1000 on amazon for physical sales
even their #1s album is currently 96 on the itunes top 100 charts
