No black school would ever call themselves "The nikkas" and you know that so your point is wrong.

No black school would, but there's a whole generation/population of black folks that do. I'm pretty sure an entire population adopting a slur is worse than a single or even a handful of schools.

Bruh let's keep it 100.

If their name was Tree Bark the money will be the same. THE PROBLEM is there is already an established entity with a fan base that is WHY the name won't change

Snyder is giving what? .005% of his income?. I don't see you donating that

It's more about the fact that out of the numerous tribes in the US, only one has a problem with the name. If there really was a problem, more tribes would have gotten involved and the name would have been changed years ago.

No black school would.

Exactly.

Pretty much. People identify the word Redskin with football team.

How about those Native American high schools with the Redskins team name? Should you tell them that they're offending themselves?
it's a native american institution, they can refer to their own people however they want

this sentiment is echoed there too:

Though [Superintendent Tommie Yazzie] said it was acceptable for schools with majority Native American populations to use the name Redskins, he believes that non‐Native American schools should avoid using it.

“If you were to put this in an urban area where the population is basically white, unless there is a cultural connection, it would be inappropriate,” he said.

But if it truly was a slur, they wouldn't call themselves Redskins for a high school team name. Which is why people shouldn't be comparing Redskins to the n-word.

who are you arguing against? when did i compare it to the n-word?

their school and community is 99.3% native, meaning next to nobody who is not a native will have any type of connection to the school. therefore they can call themselves and their team mascots whatever they want. it's different when a national brand owned, operated, and supported by largely non-native peoples (i'll even say ANY non-natives) is using a word that CAN be used as a slur in a certain context

i think the n-word comparison could come into play when snyder and his camp essentially say "it's OUR word", when it's not

You're actually wrong. On the news today, they decided to pull up the Oxford dictionary definition, since that dictionary is considered American standard.

Usage
Redskin is first recorded in the late 17th century and was applied to the Algonquian peoples generally, but specifically to the Delaware (who lived in what is now southern New York State and New York City, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania). Redskin referred not to the natural skin color of the Delaware, but to their use of vermilion face paint and body paint. In time, however, through a process that in linguistics is called pejoration, by which a neutral term acquires an unfavorable connotation or denotation, redskin lost its neutral, accurate descriptive sense and became a term of disparagement. Red man is first recorded in the early 17th century and was originally neutral in tone. Red Indian is first recorded in the early 19th century and was used by the British, far more than by Americans, to distinguish the Indians of the subcontinent from the Indians of the Americas. All three terms are dated or offensive. American Indian andNative American are now the standard umbrella terms. Of course, if it is possible or appropriate, one can also use specific tribal names (Cheyenne, Nez Percé, etc.).
That's all good and all, but fukk that
You see breh, this is the White revisionist history of how shyt went down
Deez cacs didn't invent the term. They heard it, then one day got mad a one of them
Now they all nikkaz. But this group, they just said "Man, fukk dem Redskins"
So for a short period in history, some cacs tried to turn it into something negative cuz.. hey, Redskin, eww, coodies :scusthov:
Now there are a billion fake I'm 1/10,000th indian and I find it insulting :to:

Meanwhile, on actual reservations. The inventors of the word use it as names for their High Schools with pride. Proud to be a Redskin. And why shouldn't they be proud of their Red-skin?
Cuz some fairer skinned bama told them they should hate themselves :leon:
Hail to those Redskins :salute:
Here take a free coat nikka

They should just change it to a name of on of the tribes from the area that way they could keep the same branding. Something like the Chicago Blackhawks.

This. You don't hear people complaining about the Illinois Illini, the Florida Seminoles or the Utah Utes.
