I'm happy to hear this after Atrocity Exhibition. AE wasn't bad, but it sounded like he made it with the intention of trying to get high reviews from Pitchfork and theneedledrop. This is like a properly fleshed-out version of Old minus the second half. I'm glad cuz I wasn't sure where he was going after his last couple projects and the only hip-hop album I've been bumping in its entirety from this year is Bandana.

This is my take exactly. AE wasnt bad but it really felt like a reach for indie rock reviewer love. Like ima go super leftfield to show im an "artist".

This album feels like natural progression of Old with some elements of Hybrid and the animated sexcapades of XXX

Q Tip really helped showcase all aspects of Danny musically and sequence it in a kinda trippy blend. The short length has me pretty much exclusively listening to this in full each time. This feels like the 3rd act of his career 38 and still reinventing himself

AE feels like he was in a really dark place. Its really good - deep and dark, but if he went on with that mindstate he'd end up committing suicide or ODing.

This album feels like he's grown up and moved on, he's an elder statesman of rap now. He's still really funny and smart, he just has a more level headed take on life.

AE is a good album but I felt it got pretty repetitive. Not just the bleak sound, but it has multiple bombastic-ly produced tracks that kinda feel the same (Aint It Funny, Dance In The Water, etc). It's also an album with high highs and rather meh lows. Last two tracks are kinda whatever to me.

This is definitely Danny's best album since XXX and the best rap album of the year for me. He's always had a great ear for beats but I feel like he really managed to make this album sound cohesive yet diverse at the same time. There's not a track on here that I don't like. And yea...Q Tip is the god.

Agreed on AE....im not sure why ppl love that album so much....probably bc it seems like just an "artistic statement". There's some really good songsbut a lot of meh material...plus the whole vibe was kinda like wallowing in his own misery....it got tiring...like ok youre depressed and do drugs to cope but ppl think you should keep doing that for their entertainment. And the production misses the mark on quite a bit of it

People sleep on the 1st half of Old...thats some of his best material that got overshadowed by all the ATrak EDMstuff

You so right about Old. People act like the first half doesn't exist whenever they discuss it. I've had so many arguments with people who say the album is wack, but then when I list off multiple tracks from side A they admit it had some good songs lol.

I even like a lot of the second half, too.

I fw some of the 2nd half of Old...Red 2 Go, Way Up Here and Kush Coma all go. Some of the super festival sounding stuff was irritating tho altho he made a lotta dough due to that material so i cant hate too much
