I understand what you're saying but the other families wouldn't go to war just because a underboss killed their boss. In real life what would've happened is Butch would've polled the other bosses or the bosses would've accepted it.
exactly. Why would be let Phil be out there if he already betrayed him. Chances are Phill would've killed Butch if he suspected that he was dragging his feet on killing Tone, which he kinda aleady suspected.he doesnt know.
in the conversation over the phone when butchie ends up in chinatown they make it clear butchie doesnt know where phil is.

Gotti had a lot of power and connections when he did that and look still almost got wacked. I highly doubt butchie did. Even when Carmine sr wanted John wacked he asked Tony to do it so vaguely he could never be linked to it any way. That was his underboss too which wouldn’t have been obviously as big of a deal. When John wanted carmine sr wack he begged Tony. When Tony wouldn’t he dropped it instead of hiring someone to do it. John and carmine sr had much more connections and power then butchie did as well
You got a point Butchie didn't seem to have any connections to Jersey himself and couldn't stand them
I remember reading this too (Im thinking it was the same piece), it was really well done and was helpful providing some closure on the ending
exactly. the series was written as a movie then expanded to a show, the movie was written as a series and cut down to a movie.
