What why would that dude hit Tone? It was clear he was gonna be probably Consiglere after Sil got shot. It was some random sent by New York probably contracted out to point away from Butch an 'em. That's how they handled hits for big shots.

I think the point is that it could've been anyone or a nobody. Tony thinks he's a better man than he actually is, to the point where he can't tell just how threatening and hated he can actually be. And often times big men are brought down by random people like jfk getting Merc'd by Oswald or Franz Ferdinand by some Serbian kid.

I mean I always felt that was the bigger ambiguity in the end scene, it was most likely he got whacked, but the question of who or why is what's up in the air

The NJ crew is decimated with Silvio in ICU and the rest of the main players dead.

i think they are working together. agree to take out the bosses of their families because its mutually beneficial

but there are so many clues that paulie is in on it. that whole episode where they go to florida is for paulie to come to the conclusion that tony doesnt trust him and hes gonna end up like p*ssy unless he does something. then in the last episode hes jumpy and nervous around him and the cat stares at him in his final appearance (earlier in the episode tony tells paulie the cat is looking at a 'rat in the wall' - paulie is the rat talking to NY).

patsy they've been setting up for seasons since the shyt with his dead brother. there are also some signs patsy is in on it at that meeting his family has with the sopranos.

there's also a whole theory that that girl AJ is seing in the last few episodes, rhiannon, is the way they find out where tony is going to be eating. but i think its a little flimsy

But Tony's dead either way, on the street (as Patsy never forgave Tony for killing his brother thus aligned with NY behind the scenes and Paulie alluded to killing Tony to gain points with NY). His top earners are dead (Vito, Ralphie, Chris) or out of action (Silvio). All he had left were Paulie, Patsy, Benny, and Walden....

Then on the legal side, he's got Carlo taking to the FBI amongst others building a huge case against him which will land him in prison for life...

Remember Meadow was engaged to Patsy's son, she probably blabbed to him by accident..."We are going to get some Onion Rings at Holstein's" and Patsy and Paulie put in the order to take him out....

Follows perfectly with the Godfather homage Chase throws into the show...

I always felt like HBO should have done like an hour or so unannounced special with all the ancillary cast members from the show in present day where everybody sort of drops pieces about what actually happened and let the fans decide

If dude had took the quick bag they would've fan fictioned the shyt out of the eventual ending or not had one at all.

The fact that they had Tony waiting on dikkie at the same restaurant was screaming it.

Cine Ranter said they shot a scene where Carmella was narrating at Tony and Chris's Grave. Remember Chris and dikkie was related to her not Tone by marriage.

The Godfather reference was the shooter going into the bathroom, but it wouldn't make sense to not have the gun on him.

It seems weird but maybe Mead did fukk up by mentioning the meet up to Pat's son.

Then that was the wackest ending of all time because there was nobody that makes sense to kill Tony. NY gave the approval to kill Phil.. Bobby dead, Sil in the hospital, why would someone take out Tony when the crew is on it's last leg. It doesn't make sense at all.

i get what you're saying, but to me the last season (and to a lesser extent season 5) has a lot to do with the deterioration of tony as a mob boss. i mean these guys lost a lot of respect for him over the course of the season - he gets shot and they see him as vulnerable and human, he draws out the shyt with vito when carlo and paulie want him dead, his gambling goes out of control and hesh stops fukking with him, in the last episode he isnt visiting sil in the hospital while the other guys are.

and remember, even back in season 4 paulie was considering selling out T to johnny sack so that he could be boss. these guys do fear him but by season 6 the illusion of this powerful boss who has the familys best interests is not what it used to be.

New York just used him to get rid of Phil and rid their hands of him. Best believe they still wacked him of principle. 2 birds one stone shyt. They would have lost all street cred once it got out tony killed a 5 family boss and was still breathing. That’s why they didn’t give tony his location at the meeting they wanted total deniability.

Word up and they was aleady beefing over the esplanade and other Jersey based shyt, Why not get Tone out of the way and take the whole cake?
