The Godfather reference was the shooter going into the bathroom, but it wouldn't make sense to not have the gun on him.

yeah he has the gun on him. he goes to the bathroom for two reasons
1. to make a clear allusion to an iconic scene for the audience to get and realize hes getting shot
2. he has a clear shot at tony coming out of the bathroom. this is also why they draw out meadows parallel parking for so long. if she is a little bit faster she would have been sitting next to tony and the members only guy doesnt have that shot.

edit: low key, that last part is also foreshadowed in the season 1 episode college. the guy tony is hunting is gonna shoot him but meadow gets in his way

Then that was the wackest ending of all time because there was nobody that makes sense to kill Tony. NY gave the approval to kill Phil.. Bobby dead, Sil in the hospital, why would someone take out Tony when the crew is on it's last leg. It doesn't make sense at all.

First of all Tone wanted money for Bobby's death (that probaly wasn't going to Tone's sister anyway) that alone would be enough reason to just Kill Tone. Plus the construction shyt, The absestos dumping even the garbage routes Remember Tone demanded a piece of the Barone sale there's a million reasons to get Tone out of there. Yep coming out of the bathroom would've made more sense than just coming off the bar to shoot Tone, there's the off chance Tone could've been armed and someone could've prevented the killing. Remember how Tone survived the Junior set up.

i get what you're saying, but to me the last season (and to a lesser extent season 5) has a lot to do with the deterioration of tony as a mob boss. i mean these guys lost a lot of respect for him over the course of the season - he gets shot and they see him as vulnerable and human, he draws out the shyt with vito when carlo and paulie want him dead, his gambling goes out of control and hesh stops fukking with him, in the last episode he isnt visiting sil in the hospital while the other guys are.

and remember, even back in season 4 paulie was considering selling out T to johnny sack so that he could be boss. these guys do fear him but by season 6 the illusion of this powerful boss who has the familys best interests is not what it used to be.
