The Steelers success since Ben has been there has been due to them having great teams, Ben included.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by build around the defense- how are they not doing that now? 5 of their last 6 first round picks have been defense.
This guy wants some shyt where you have a monster defense and a $10 million QB.. He fails to see that the league and the MONEY has changed..

You are never bringing their salaries down..

It's not happening.

defense holding three teams to 27 points total in 3 games SO FAR is not a generalization, its a factual statement

Yes the Eagles defense has played great to start, two games happened to be against bad football teams.

Hey I agree the sweetspot time to go after the ring is when you have the good QB still on his rookie contract and you can afford to spend elsewhere in the interim. The thing I fail to see is how the second contract is peventing the franchise from drafting well or retaining their elite talent at other positions. Seattle paid Wagner, Sherman and Thomas. New Orleans hasn't really had anyone worth paying and the guy they did pay was a massive mistake.

New England would be the only example but the Brady situation is unique and somehow Belichick has convinced Gronk to play for peanuts. But a lot of things don't make sense up there.

You guys are looking at it wrong. It's a mixture of all that, but the constant is the two lines. If a team has a shytty o-line, it doesn't matter how good the QB or the skill players are. They won't accomplish shyt. Look at the O-lines. A single weak link can be exploited by a good d-coordinator. Especially in the interior. If your center sucks or can't hold his own, that QB is food. Teams like the Giants last night constantly collapse up the middle. That shyt ain't gonna fly against a good defense. I'm rambling lol

Gronk isn't playing for peanuts..

It's hard to replicate those drafts.. You can't always find a Richard Sherman in the 5th round..

It's mad hard

Bottom line is yeah you have to have a great defense to win but that isn't enough. Other then last year's Broncos and the 2000 Ravens no other team has won SBs that way

I was rooting for Grossman and the Bears :mjcry:

Gronk is making like 3.5 mill this year which is pretty low.

That's the way his deal was structured in the later years of the deal.. It was 6yrs/ $54 million with $13 million guaranteed :scust: If I'm not mistaken Beli approached him with an extension early on in his career and he signed it :beli:

You're right, the Pats jumped on that early. Great move by them, but generally guys of Gronks stature would force a restructure especially with his injury history. Gronk on the open market is commanding more than 3.5 mill.

bullshyt rhetoric
you fail to bring up a reason to overpay the qb besides 'everybodys doing it'

fine, be a sheep.

the money has changed ? yes average ass qbs are getting more money than one of the most dominant defensive players of the last couple of decades

your whole argument is nothing but circular bullshyt. you say average qbs are getting paid more than elite defenders because qb is the most important position therefore instrumental to success of the teams. yet factual data shows that success is tied more to defense than offense, and thus, qb

my argument is crystal clear: you have to have great defenses to win regardless of qbs; then, theres no point in overpaying qb to the point you can get like two elite/great defensive players for the cost of one average/above average qb. sure, elite qbs will have the team playing better, just like elite wrs or elite corners or elite linebackers will. if the goal is to win championship and not to fap to beautiful spirals.

von miller has done more for his team to win the SB than peyton manning either of his superbowl teams but he needs to be paid less than jay cutler :heh: :camby:

You've yet to tell us how or why QB contracts are preventing teams from fielding good defenses.

The Seahawks and Patriots both field good defenses and their highest paid player is the QB.

Who are these elite defensive players hitting the open market that teams should get rid of their QB for?

Yes, this is a game of value. GM's understand the replacement value of a Wilson or Ben- which is why they command a lot of money.

The Bears making a stupid call on Cutler doesn't diminish the value of a great QB.

It also helps that their all time great QB never takes a market value contract cause his wife is a supermodel and makes like $100 million a year
