As has always been the case, the Raptors are quietly racking up wins while everyone pays attention to the rest of the NBA. Raps are now 26-10, good for 2nd in the East (tied in losses with 1st place Boston) and have the 4th highest win % in the NBA.

Meanwhile, their star player DeMar DeRozan is shooting .485% from the field (best since his rookie year on severely less shot attempts and as a role player), .368% from 3 (career high) while also giving you over 4 rbs per game and a career high 5 assists per game.

As with every year, he becomes a greater offensive threat by adding more tools to his game and/or already enhancing what he has. His mid-range is deadly, his ball handling is vastly improved, his finishing at the rim is near second to none, he makes and takes a ton of FTs (not that Harden BS either) and now he can shoot the 3.

The things he REALLY stepped up this year is the vision on the court and his defense. He's merging into a complete player on both ends of the court.

It's about time people recognise a top 2 SG in the NBA and top 10 player overall. DeRozan might not be the top 3 MVP options as of yet, but if Toronto take the 1 seed and he continues to play like this, he might deserve the award come season end. Oh...he's averaging 40+ ppg in 2018.

Derozan is the most underrated player in the NBA

Takes the hardest shots, shoots at a high percentage, not afraid to go to the rim

Waits for some fakkits to talk about he has to prove himself in the playoffs

I'm just waiting for the idiot who says that DeMar's shortcomings in the playoffs means he is undeserving of an MVP.

It's gonna happen...

And still can't step up and guard LeBron :mjlol:

Still a second round bounce at best. But enjoy your single season accolades (if you want to call them that)

1. never said DeMar was elite defensively, just improved
2. how many ppl you know can guard LeBron?
3. even LeBron doesn't waste his energy guarding opponents best offensive players if he wants to keep energy for the offensive end...why should DeMar worry about this....we have better perimeter options like Anunoby
4. 2nd round bounce is irrelevant to this discussion

try again

SOMEBODY has to stop LeBron. His idol Kobe always stepped up and guarded the best player. You really trust a rookie to guard him? You saw how that turned out (Jaylen Brown, Stanly Johnson)

I'm not knocking DeRozen at all man. I'm excited that he finally found his 3 point range. He is definitely in the MVP conversation. All i'm saying is none of these things matter when we're talking postseason.

Kobe was elite defensively, DeMar isn't.

As a Raps fan/coach/whatever, I don't want DeMar trying to guard Bron. Even if he could do it, I wouldn't want him doing it on ALL possessions.

Anunoby won't nullify him but he will be a nuisance, more so than the others. He has the size and defensive knowhow already that is far advanced for his age/experience level. Then we have athletic bigs that have a better chance than most when they get switched on PnRs like Ibaka and Siakam.

Powell, while undersized, can be tenacious as well. We have some different looks to throw at him but I think the key is to not let anyone else get hot. Bron is gonna get his. He's damn near un-guardable especially come playoff time.

Regarding DeRozan, again this has nothing to do with postseason. I get your point but it is irrelevant to this discussion. You agree he's in the MVP convo, that's what this thread is about. Plus his game now is much more playoff ready because he's a better passer and the Raps move the ball better against those stifling defenses. We iso much less now with Lowry/DD. I have hope this year.

Tag me up next time breh.

And yes, DeMar should be in the MVP conversation. Each year dude has been getting better. Now, he's making better and quicker decisions with the ball, nailing his 3pt shots while still going to the rim and getting to the freethrow line. His shooting percentages across the board are pretty damn good. Most of all, he's not scared down the stretch of games to put the team on his back. One of the best SG in the game right now, better fukking believe it :salute:
