Democrats keep demonizing progressives, yet the masses keep voting for progressive ideas.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Raising the minimum wage to $15.00

progressive right? You hear it all the time by people like Bernie Sanders and AOC.

Biden lost Florida. But that minimum wage hike was on the ballot and passed 60% to 39%.

Democrats had full control in NJ for several years. The governor ran on legalizing weed. But the democratic leaderships pragmatic approach stalled and stalled until it became obvious they wasn’t going to do shyt until, it was put on the ballot and the masses voted for it.

Centrists will keep trying to appeal to republicans and will continue to lose in cycles. If I’m a conservative, why would I vote for a centrist/conservative lite when I can vote for a 100% conservative. Most Americans want Medicare for all of if it were on the ballot it would get passed.

If people are already voting for progressive policies, why exactly are you mad?

:mjlol:

because conservatives run the country. They control most state legislatures. They control the courts. More importantly, you got democrats who try to align with some of their views and vote for some of their policies all in the same of getting elected or re-elected, yet someone manage to always lose. And even when they win, they still lose in the next cycle.

i'm sorry but if Nap got his thread-making abilities banned (at least he'll post a substantive article to kick off some nonsense), this dude needs to lose his as well. breh posts the most rudimentary random thoughts - that have whole ass threads dedicated to the discussion already - every single time he posts.

People like the policies. The self righteousness, the endless purity tests, the crazy scatterbrained ideas that go too far (e.g. defund the police), making up new things each year to be offended by (e.g. opeds on why cisgendered heteronormative ideology is harmful :dead:), and the let me tell you why you’re too stupid to know what you need attitude? Which is mansplaining (another new thing that was just made up :dead:) for progressives which they’re supposedly against. Nah. People rather have the moderates deliver some of your ideas than deal with y’all 24/7 :mjlol:

Their moderates tho, they aren't interested in doing any of the things people actually want so people will never get them.
Referendums are best it seems people still treat politics like it's a personality contest instead about issues/policies to improve people's lives.

Why don't Progressives acknowledge they have a persuasion problem?
If they have a persuasion problem why does most of America agree with their policies? Everything from Black Lives Matter, to Medicare for all, to variations of the green new deal and student debt relief now have majority support. Most people aren’t getting their interactions with progressives from social media. What progressives have is an institutional problem - money and power. If you mean play nice to acquire power first then that I can get along with.

They also don’t acknowledge that their ideas have been completely demonized as “socialism” in certain places. Plus they have this we are always right attitude that puts people off.

Black Lives Matters (civil rights) is not progressive. Progressives just hijacked it and watered it down.

People agreeing with their policies doesn't mean much if people generally don't support the candidates pushing the policies. For example, for decades laymen who lean right have disagreed with right leaning economists on international trade but it wasn't until Trump that the ideas the unelectable Pat Buchanan introduced became policy. I think money and power is a relevant constraint; but even if that is the case, to some degree it still doesn't undermine the point that progressives would benefit from a better cost/benefit analysis regarding rhetoric. Thus, if Progressives want to undermine the status quo Chomsky tinged complaining about "manipulation" should take a backseat.
