Bolt isn't a quick starter and it's a different race than the 100 meters. It's why you don't see Bolt competing during the indoor season in the 60 meters. Starts are everything in the shorter than 100 meter distances.

Bolt's 40 is around the 4.2 - 4.3 range and that's WITH having to react to the start sound.

If he ran the 40 like they do at the NFL combine he'd probably hit a 4.0 or 4.1, nikkas don't understand how fast he really is. During his 9.58, he hit 27mph, the muthafukka would have been speeding in a school zone.

Reaction time is not factored into NFL 40 times, because the clock starts when they start running.

The thing is Bolt doesn't hit top speed until like 50-60 meters. That's when he hits 26 mph and pulls away from everyone.

He wouldn't be able to do that in a 40 yard dash. Bolt would run a fast time but I don't know if it's something like 4.0 or under like people are suggesting.

People have already broken down what his time is through 40 meters, and it's generally a 4.3 or 4.4. The 40 meter dash is 11 feet more than 40 yards, that 4.3-4.4 includes the reaction time. He's running a longer distance in roughly the same time the fastest NFL players run the 40.

He may not be the fastest in the world through 40 yards, but I have little doubt he's faster than NFL/College players through it.

Yea, this true if you notice a lot of his competitors often start well ahead of him before his strides mixed with his speed gains its momentum around 50-60m

He's selling himself short. I'm pretty sure denard could run a 9.60 100m. I mean, he runs in football gear; thats like running underwater. He would embarass bolt.

I respect his modesty. Denard would win the 100m, 200m, shotput, discus, and long jump. Ann Arbor > Kingston, and michigans facilities alone would get him five golds...ask michael phelps

even with the slow clock reaction running a 40 with a shorter distance is a disadvantage for bolt.his body and momentum will barely be extended by the time he's done with 120 feet.

Because of his body frame, he builds up speed in the first 50m before blowing people away.

He has run the 40-yard dash in 4.32 seconds, and he recorded the fastest competition time in 2010 among Michigan's sprinters in the 60-meter dash.

i know, its an even shorter distance. I dont think Bolt can get to top speed at 20 yards. He hasnt shown that ever, let alone in a 40 yard dash.


Put it like this, Deion Sanders ran the 40 in a 4.2. His best 100 meter time at FSU was 10.21. Bo Jackson supposedly ran a 4.19 in the 40, his best 100 time in college was a 10.39.

The races are not the same.

It's not going to be a huge difference, people are making too big of a deal out of Bolt being a "slow" starter. He may be when you compare him to other guys who run sub 10 second 100m times, but it's not like he's ever in last place through 40m.


Also, Denard ran a 6.81 in the 60m dash, Bolt has gone 6.31. From 40m to 60m, Bolt isn't gaining .5 worth of difference, that difference is built through the first 40 as well.
