TO be fair, we've had Bayard Rustin and James Baldwin and Langston Hughes, etc. :yeshrug:

But yeah, I can't stand this dude :francis:
Today, blacks are no longer the litmus paper or the barometer of social change. Blacks are in every segment of society and there are laws that help to protect them from racial discrimination. The new "ni$$ers" are gays.... It is in this sense that gay people are the new barometer for social change.... The question of social change should be framed with the most vulnerable group in mind: gay people
:stopitslime: I understand all he did but still:scust:

He's the epitome of the non threatening black male which is great for the establishment. This is why he's popular. I hate all of these activists ideologies, I really do.
if you work in corporate america, you know this type all too well :sas2:

theres something about this dude that just seems mad sneaky to me...
I actually felt the same way at first, this was before I heard him speak etc. I honestly don't think he is like that at all now, I believe he is a genuine person, I may not agree with everything he says but I do believe he would put others before himself. Just my opinion on the man, I'm usually a great judge of character too, if that's worth anything. lol

dont fall for the okie doke fam. BLM is funded by white folks and we all know white folks will never truly liberate black people because it goes against their own interest.

deray/blm is controlled opposition.

It ain't that he's gay, it's that he's being promoted as the face of our rising consciousness in order to dilute the message from being about blackness to also being about gayness.

I'm watching the interview now and they're talking about North Carolina and transgender issues. These issues are totally irrelevant to what we as black people need to deal with and the powers that be try to conflate the two on purpose.

What does his homosexuality have to do with anything? I'm not a fan of DeRay but I couldn't care less about him being gay. Yall got a problem with James Baldwin too? What about Baynard Rustin? Take that homophobic conspiracy shyt elsewhere because it really makes you sound stupid as fukk, especially in 2016.
:what:

My problem with DeRay is that he's not up front about the origin of his ideology. He's a Teach For America rep. TFA has spent decades displacing qualified, experienced teachers with newly graduated young, often female or minority "teachers" with no experience and little knowledge of their fields. A lot of the most ambitious members end up working in Washington, at lobbyist firms, or in DeRay's case being an "activist." In some ways he went rogue given that I don't think TFA types expected him to run for office so early. But he'll likely do it again and again until he gets into a position of power.

DeRay believes a lot of stuff most of us believe. But I just can't cosign privatizing education, especially in inner cities. I like the idea of getting more minorities (especially black men) into teaching but I'd prefer it be done RIGHT.

My other problem with DeRay is that I don't think he is effective as an activist outside of shining light on issues through twitter. When it comes to actually getting things done him, BLM, and all the other so called black activists disappoint. So much focus is on complaining about the black experience at the hands of white supremacy, using various catch phrases, getting things "trending" on twitter etc while very little focus is actually on THE BLACK COMMUNITY. Go back and look at what the Black Panthers were doing for the community, or the NOI or King's groups. They weren't simply sitting around complaining about some dude who got shot by police, or yelling at politicians, or making asinine arguments online about what words should or shouldn't be used.

Him being Gay is a part of the growing idea here on the Coli and in real life/Internet people are trying to connect the struggles of the black community with the struggles of the Gay community.

Not a Deray fan in the least bit but breh if you think the HB2 LAWs here in NC don't effect black people you obviously did not read the LAWs on the bill and you just go with the sheep believing it's about Trannies in public bathrooms.

I'd explain the fine print here but I'd rather you google it yourself.

I don't care to Google it but it's a pretty weak move on your part to say that I'm misinformed and not explain how. Feel free to educate me on the law if I'm as ill-informed as you say.

And frankly, even if I were wrong about that law it doesn't change the fact that so-called transgender issues don't have shyt to do with black issues. You can't just pick out the one part of the post you disagree with and tell me 'Google it,' that doesn't help anyone.

I don't think he's "disingenuous"...but he's certainly not cut from a cloth that we need. And its not cause he's gay cause other men and women who are gay have done way more with less.
