What does his homosexuality have to do with anything? I'm not a fan of DeRay but I couldn't care less about him being gay. Yall got a problem with James Baldwin too? What about Baynard Rustin? My problem with DeRay is that he's not up front about the origin of his ideology. He's a Teach For America rep. TFA has spent decades displacing qualified, experienced teachers with newly graduated young, often female or minority "teachers" with no experience and little knowledge of their fields. A lot of the most ambitious members end up working in Washington, at lobbyist firms, or in DeRay's case being an "activist." In some ways he went rogue given that I don't think TFA types expected him to run for office so early. But he'll likely do it again and again until he gets into a position of power.

DeRay believes a lot of stuff most of us believe. But I just can't cosign privatizing education, especially in inner cities. I like the idea of getting more minorities (especially black men) into teaching but I'd prefer it be done RIGHT.

My other problem with DeRay is that I don't think he is effective as an activist outside of shining light on issues through twitter. When it comes to actually getting things done him, BLM, and all the other so called black activists disappoint. So much focus is on complaining about the black experience at the hands of white supremacy, using various catch phrases, getting things "trending" on twitter etc while very little focus is actually on THE BLACK COMMUNITY. Go back and look at what the Black Panthers were doing for the community, or the NOI or King's groups. They weren't simply sitting around complaining about some dude who got shot by police, or yelling at politicians, or making asinine arguments online about what words should or shouldn't be used.

The irony is that Deray is fighting for gay rights when white gays don't even fukk with Black gays.

They have segregated gay pride events. There's a Black gay pride and a white gay pride in every major city.

They have segregated clubs and drag shows. There are white gay clubs and there are Black gay clubs.

I have an issue with black leaders who get into the intersectionality thing. Black people have all the problems we can handle just being black in a white supremacist society. So, I don't care to talk about homophobia, transphobia, feminism, etc. I have no patience for these types.
