Did 2Pac really "run" the year 1996? Or was it either the Fugees or Nas' year?

Who ran the year 1996?

I grew up in the burbs. :yeshrug:

I can at least admit I enjoyed that album. There's nothing wrong with enjoying music outside of hip hop.

Also, I'm 30 and could care less about how "hood" I am. That's childish.
I been in the burbs half my life... but still only white nikkaz was fukkin wit grungy shyt... the nikkaz was still rap n RnB :manny:

Pac was :boss: and Fugees were neck-to-neck with my GOAT:ahh:
...remembers when HIP-Hop with content was GOAT, and going multi-platinum:wow:

Given the fact that he was selling more, and on the radio more, I would say Pac took over for a while. In NY and Cali, he was all I heard.

Re-writing history there huh? Not unusual post-2pac's death. But was he selling more & on the radio more?

Hmm..let me see. Fugees did about 5-6 million in the states. Let me guess, you think 2pac sold 10 mill right? Lmao i love re-writers & hypebeasts. double album means add sales by 2, since its double disc. So he did about the same as Fugees.

On radio more? Nope. Fugees had a bigger reach at the time since they had a crossover appeal too. Hence why they were performing at most awards & getting nominated for so many awards. So they definitely had a bigger world wide play than a 2pac. 2pac's "California Love" prolly had that same reach, the rest were played but not as much as you seem to think, esp globally & domestically outside of the hip-hop format.

So you're re-writing, as most do when celebs die. By now 2pac is the most certified thug/gangsta - even though at the time he was dissed almost as much as Wayne for not being 1, which he clearly wasnt, hence why he overcompansated by trying to prove it, and at the same time a Martin Luther King while..Cube, Chuck D, KRS & the list goes on aint shyt & people dont care.

In LA he dominated, obviously. MTV covered every move he was making and all the major media outlets had been for a while. As with his videos getting a lot of spins. At the time really if MTV covered it a lot it was popular all over just because for people who lived in the mid-west in small towns that's all they knew.

96 was Pac's year and The Fugees were popular too at the same time. It is not like when it is someone's year they are the ONLY person getting spins.

So you believe that the Fugees had the bigger year than 'Pac "globally"?

All that sales by 2 talk, we know that buddy. He was also pushing a $30 product that did over 500,000 first week. I don't know your point of reference, perhaps you were listening to music at coffeeshops and/or with the drama club kids but Tupac was by far the bigger commodity and sensation. The Fugees had some cover songs on the radio

This is the way it was...at first it was neck and neck and then the Fugees were getting the lead but after Pacs death it was all Pac. Makaveli dropped late 96 when Fugees had already shot their whole load for 96. Makaveli overshadowed Doggfather, Ironman, Muddy Waters and anything the Fugees had already done.....Pac had two moments in 96, one alive and one in death...Fugees only had one moment
