Did 2Pac really "run" the year 1996? Or was it either the Fugees or Nas' year?

Who ran the year 1996?

Looking back I think it was the Fugees year. Pac was huge don't get me wrong but a lot of it was for the wrong reasons. From a pure musical standpoint. The Score sold a ridiculous amount and nobody had a bigger single than Killing Me Softly. Plus they had Fu-Ge-La and Ready Or Not. All of those songs were huge. Lauryn Hill became a superstar and really is the main reason If I Ruled The World blew up the way it did. I didn't even like the Fugees but I think some of yall are forgetting just how big they were in 96. Not to mention the fact they won two Grammys off that album

Re-writing history there huh? Not unusual post-2pac's death. But was he selling more & on the radio more?

Hmm..let me see. Fugees did about 5-6 million in the states. Let me guess, you think 2pac sold 10 mill right? Lmao i love re-writers & hypebeasts. double album means add sales by 2, since its double disc. So he did about the same as Fugees.

On radio more? Nope. Fugees had a bigger reach at the time since they had a crossover appeal too. Hence why they were performing at most awards & getting nominated for so many awards. So they definitely had a bigger world wide play than a 2pac. 2pac's "California Love" prolly had that same reach, the rest were played but not as much as you seem to think, esp globally & domestically outside of the hip-hop format.

So you're re-writing, as most do when celebs die. By now 2pac is the most certified thug/gangsta - even though at the time he was dissed almost as much as Wayne for not being 1, which he clearly wasnt, hence why he overcompansated by trying to prove it, and at the same time a Martin Luther King while..Cube, Chuck D, KRS & the list goes on aint shyt & people dont care.
:comeon: You can't be this stupid.

I would say that the Fugees and Pac were neck in neck in the beginning cuz both their albums came out in feb 13. But as months went by Pac slowly became the front-runner (obv there are a couple of factors that allowed that to happen).

Radio-wise, it depended on the region. Out west and south you would hear Pac more, but California Love was a bigger hit (commercially) than any song off the Score and I heard it a lot more.

Lastly, Pac's image and MLK, Chuck, Krs 1, and so on are not even apart of the discussion so I don't know why would bring them up (especially MLK :why:)

I think your definitely right about the whole region thing. They played California Love a lot over here but I don't think it was nearly as much as Killing Me Softly. That shyt was getting played on the 30 and over station too
