Because there haven't been legit looking dives in the history of combat sports before (see: Shamrock, Ken; :MiSu: ).
I'm not going to fully say that this was a dive, and Silva's exhibited this type of behavior in the Octagon before (see his fight with Bonnar, he was engaging in the same type of antics that he was engaging in last night), but two things are making "work" stick in my mind:
1). His behavior pre- and post-fight, which has been nothing short of strange and confounding.
2). The exaggerated nature of his Matrixing in the match. Usually he'll do it for a few seconds to a minute, then kill the opponent (yes, the Leites and Maia fights say differently, but he put playing around for an entire fight on the shelf after that), but here, he did it for the entire fight in exaggerated fashion against a guy he could've destroyed in the stand-up.
All I'm saying is that there's some reason for doubt here. Silva could've just been legit KOed due to his own stupidity. But everything's been too weird to not at least entertain the thought of a work.
