And Wilt didn't play Bill Russell, as good of a defender at the 5 as anyone to ever play the game? :dahell:
And back then, there were less teams so you played the good players more often. Wilt played Russell 12 times during the 1962 season :damn: that's like if today you had 3 Bill Russell quality guys in your own conference or if there wee 6 of them waiting for you in the opposite conference
And there were other good centers of the era like Willis Reed, Walt Bellamy, Nate Thurmond, etc. who throughout his career Wilt would match up with countless times.
60s-70s NBA was ass. Even my pops who finna be 62 this year says it. You had a few dominant players like the ones you just named. But for the most part it was a Lakers Vs Celtics slug fest

Hard thing to quantify. Take away the championships and judging them as players, no way are Joe Dumars or Dennis Rodman Hall of Famers. When people like Zo, Kemp, Webber, KJ are barely even considered.

Two teams dominating the league is not a new concept and is not an indictment of the quality of players, especially when there were fewer teams and therefor more condensed talent making the individual teams relatively better. The Lakers and Celtics combined for 8/10 titles in the 80s and made 13 collective appearances. The Celtics Wilt had to go up against had 8 HoFers at once at point, if anything that's a testament to his greatness as he often took those teams to 7 games. Also if ya pops was 62, he was only 4 years old when Wilt was droppin 50 a night, no disrespect to the OG but he didn't really know that era :manny:
He knew the mid-late 70s which were pretty rough, but the 60s-early 70s shouldn't be lumped in with that

East Coast All Stars
Doc
Eddie Johnson, one of greatest scorers everybody forgot was great
young Antoine “OG Big Dog” Carr
prime Tree Rollins
they had Lorenzo Charles right after The Miracle Game, but he played Nique’s position
Plastic Man
Mookie Blaylock, perhaps the best defensive guard after GP and Mike
Stacey “plastic man” Augman was underrated, not HOF but decent. Like 80’s version of Ariza. He and Willis were easily my fave Nique teammates on the hawks, and of course Spud.

Kevin Garnett

The dudes best team was when he had Latrell Sprewel, who was out of the league a year later, and a 10 year vet Sam Casel, who only made his first all star appearance that year.

And he dragged them to game 6 of the Western Conference Finals

KG is the poster boy of being failed by a front office

Who made all the big shots during that run?

KG was an excellent 3 quarter player. Come the fourth when he already had his stats he couldn't close teams out. Not winning 1 playoff series until Cassell came is proof of that. shyt on his teammates all you want, KG couldn't close games out, Duncan could, which is why that debate no longer exists anymore

KG wasn’t an elite offensive scorer but you pointing out Cassell is a reason why he needed better teammates.

Cassell was like 34-35 that season and could hit big shots for them. Imagine what a younger by and better perimeter player would have done.

KG ain’t Duncan, but so what? We talking about KG’s situation.

how about iverson in philly
Controversial, but Ben Taylor’s last podcast affirmed something I’ve always thought about Iverson. He was miscast as a number one option.

If he played with someone like Paul Pierce, and let Pierce be the volume scorer I think they have playoff success and win title(s).
