Did anyone think 20 years after Madlib produced The Unseen and Alchemist produced Keep it Thoro...

Madlib has been killing it since those early 90s Alkaholiks albums.

There was a period I thought Alchemist had fallen off....around the mid 2000s. I remember being underwhelmed by the 1st Infantry album and some other things he was doing 04-06. The 1st Infantry album has since grown on me, although I still think it's far from his best work and there's some filler.

But him transitioning from dude guys go to for random tracks to focusing more on producing projects for different artists was good move for him and helped freshen up his style.
first album that made me look at him differently was the covert coup. At some point he just found his style. It's almost like he went on some acid trip and came back with this sort of psychedelic hypnotic rough style. He has been on a run ever since.

I think Muggs is making more enduring albums/projects than Alchemist these days. Harder beats and way better MC's.

I'll take Roc Marc, Eto, Mach/Fahim, Meyhem & Crimeapple over Spitta, Gibbs, Boldy, Bronson & The Cool Kids all day.
cac please

you never had a good opinion.

Same but I'm biased. Considering that Muggs started long before Alc did it's that more impressive. But Alc has been more consistent over the years, Muggs had a rough stretch before reinventing himself these past years.

Yeah Muggs' rap/rock stuff with Cypress was weak but mainstream music was in the toilet back then and they saw the people who were buttering their bread.

But Muggs has been back on track since his first wave of DJ Muggs Vs. albums.

I know Alc was going to blow at some point or another, he had the the right mix of retro and modern going, and he could adjust based on on the rapper. A little more surprised at Madlib because even though I thought he was brilliant, I didn't think his stuff was going to break into semi mainstream success though if we're to be honest it was Madvilliany and later Pinata what helped in those regards on top of just putting out quality music consistently.

Muggs has been a contributor in the regard too and I don't think gets enough credit.

I probably became a fan after seeing his name in the credits in the CD booklet of Jadakiss' first album. I always paid attention to who produced shyt.
