:camby: man you had a couple decent points but most of what you are saying in this thread is complete BS
The main point is that Rakim is overrated...

(1) He pretty much one dimensional...Hence, he couldn't survive the changes in hip hop trends...
(2) He was NOT viable in the greatest era of hip hop...Dude was considered an "old man" by rappers who where 5 years younger and less than
him...

Any top ten list that includes Rakim is suspect...His output was just not as comparable as (1) LL Cool J (2) Ice Cube (3) KRS 1 (4) 2Pac (5) Jay Z (6) Nas (7) Eminem (8) 50 Cent (9) Lil Wayne (10) Kanye West...

Note: 2Pac and 50 Cents are the only two rappers on that list that I listen to on a consistent basis...The rest are "objective" selections based on their consistent impact and production over a long period of time...

That match didn't seem like it would work out anyway, to be honest, I would rather have a Rakim album at that time produced entirely by Primo. To me, all the tracks they have done together are classic, and they have good chemistry.

His musical output leaves alot to be desired....

Im not saying he should have been Jay-z, but after his Eric B stuff, that nikka takes long hiatuses{besides the 18th letter and the Master}...

The 18th letter is still getting play...

I would have to revisit the Master again...

I just feel for the talent he possesses, his musical output{keep up guys..smh} could have been stronger....

Im not dissing the man at any level..

Bruh rakim has arguably the most solid catalogs in hip hop history

stronger than being arguably THE MOST influential MC in history? :what: stronger than dropping 3 classics in a row? stronger than supposedly ghostwriting Will Smiths best song? stronger than being in 90% of MC's top 5 DOA?

rakim did not write summertime.

KRS 1 >>>> Rakim...

Rakim was irrelevant in the GOAT era...I remember, in the 90's, people talking about Rakim like if he was ancient...

Compare Rakim to Nas and Jay Z, these dudes are competing with the younglings...They are releasing material (I think is personally wack) but at least they are visible...In some cases, they are mentoring the younglings, the hip hop public is interested in their opinions about current events...

They are making way more money than when they first came through the gates...

Where was Rakim when the Wu Tang introduced us to the 36 Chambers, Snoop was doing it Doggystyle, 2Pac was going against the world, Nas was being Illmatic, Mobb Deep was making QB infamous, Biggie was ready to die and etc...

He is overrated...

you really don't know the consequence of your bullshyt act, do you.

you are so offkey, when it comes to this culture....

I am stating FACTS...You are using a lot of words by NOT stating anything...

Where was Rakim when the Wu Tang, 2Pac, Nas, Mobb Deep, Biggie and etc were doing their thing...?

Rakim was in his mid-to-late 20s in the GREATEST era of hip hop...He had no excuse for being irrelevant...

Dude is the Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Grant Hill and soon to be D Rose category...He is NOT up there with the Birds Magic Jordan Kobe and LeBron category...
