Shai became a star out of OKC, so did Russ and KD. But that’s because of Nike and Jordan brand. Shoe companies do the NBA’s job for them. While i get it, it’s a reason mf in small markets suffer, yeah he might be ill out there in sac town but nikkas not trying to see him because he’s not as big of a draw as steph
But the league has to step in and start promoting them more and they have to do things to allow them to put together teams, at one point sac town had a squad, long gone are those days same for Portland
Good point but it depends on how the new generations with the mobility of the internet and on move. Like if these new mega stars become like LeBron to the new kids then they might start losing what they had.The MLB and NFL have team loyalty already on lock ..if they also get the other side of larger than life superstars (NFL almost there)they’ll have the best of both worlds .
Stern gave the people what they wanted. Now if they want something different that’s on Silver to fix itthis is where Stern fukked up.
I think you’re forgetting that nostalgia happened because people loved the game at that point. Michigan was playing struggle football all year and I tuned in because I feel connected to it. The NBA doesn’t have that. Fans even bond over a shyt product in soccer and football.I said this shyt a while back.. that I was checking some 90's game and it look slow as fukk... And I remember telling people just fukking go on YouTube...
I find the biggest tragedy in sports is being too nostalgic, not allowing space to appreciate progression.

Do they even sell trading cards anymore? I remember having booklets full and finessing classmates at school with the trades. shyt I would've been an amazing GMI admit how I viewed the league back then was clouded by nostalgia and being a young fan with nothing but time on his hands. Ironically post-Jordan, I was looking forward to seeing what Webber and Hardaway could do coming into that year. The league still had there stars and I was hoping the Knicks could get a chip while MJ was gone. Collecting bball cards were huge back then as well.
It already sucked when MJ was playing.

They still sell the cards, I know Walmart locations keep them up front by the checkout registers. But they are not as valued or valuable anymore from my understanding. You can packs of cards (football and bball) at Dollar Tree, and it’s been like that for some time.Do they even sell trading cards anymore? The struggle was real back then hoping to get a pack with a couple of all-stars or superstars. Now you can get a pack of cards with Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow, and Allen within the same pack![]()
