The laws blacks had against them were far more brutal and systematic then the laws gays currently have. Even if you compare the two in terms of severity 100 years ago, the gay experience was easier than the black one. No one can see another person's sexuality so the adverse treatment isn't as widely distributed relative to what, say, an ethnic minority group might face.

There's some legitimacy to what @Napoleon is saying, gays have been discriminated against and are being discriminated against. however the level of severity differs between discriminated groups in terms of discrimination outcome is different and they can't be analogized to extremes. Washington should understand that but we all know why she doesn't. That said, I support gay rights totally.

besides marriage laws, which are rapidly changing across the nation; how are gays being systematically discriminated against? gays have their own thriving communities, they have more wealth, they have more political power and influence. you wouldn't even know these people were gay if they didn't tell you or act like a fakkit; so where's the comparison?
